After several spy shots of the new Gixxer 155 emerging on the internet, Suzuki has finally launched the naked motorcycle in India. The new Gixxer 155 has been priced at Rs 1 lakh which is a premium of around Rs 12,000 over the outgoing model. That makes it one of the most expensive motorcycles in the 150cc-160cc segment. Having said that, let’s check out what else you can consider around a similar price range.
Starting with the Gixxer’s closest competitor, the Yamaha FZ S V3 is also a fresh product in this segment. Yamaha has recently updated the FZ series by giving the motorcycles an all-new styling, updated features and a slightly reworked engine. Powering the FZ V3 and the FZ S V3 is a 149cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected mill which produces 13bhp and 12.8Nm. In terms of styling, the FZ S gets a few additional elements such as a belly pan, chrome accent on the tank extensions and jazzier colour schemes which distinguish it from the standard FZ V3. Priced at Rs 98,180, the S variant demands a premium of Rs 2000 over the base trim and sits closer to the Gixxer 155 in terms of pricing.
The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is yet another offering the Gixxer 155 faces stiff competition from. The motorcycle carries an edgy styling which is majorly similar to its elder sibling, the Apache RTR 200 4V. In terms of performance, it is more powerful than the Gixxer 155 as it churns out 16.1bhp and 14.8Nm from its 159.7cc, oil-cooled, carbureted/fuel-injected motor which features four valves per cylinder. As for the pricing, TVS offers the Apache RTR 160 4V in three trims including carbureted with rear drum brake, carbureted with rear disc and fuel-injected with rear disc which are priced at Rs 90,101, Rs 93,101 and Rs 99,101.
Hero XPulse 200 and XPulse 200T
Hero expanded its ‘X’ line-up in May by launching the XPulse 200 and the XPulse 200T in India. While the former is purely an adventure motorcycle, the latter is the road-biased touring variant of the same. Boasting of different styling and components depending on their purpose, the motorcycles are powered by the same 199.6cc, air-cooled, carbureted engine which churns out 18.1bhp and 17.1Nm. Interestingly, the XPulse 200 also gets an option of a fuel-injected powerplant. Despite the larger displacement motor, the XPulse 200 and the XPulse 200T are more affordable than the Gixxer 155, priced at Rs 95,000 and Rs 98,000, respectively. However, the fuel-injected variant of the XPulse is more expensive at Rs 1.06 lakhs.
In case you prefer a fully-faired motorcycle with commuter-friendly ergonomics, Hero also has the Xtreme 200S in its ‘X’ line-up. Powered by the same engine as the XPulse 200 and the XPulse 200T, the 200S features a fully-faired design for the front while sharing rest of the styling with its naked sibling, the Xtreme 200R. Priced at Rs 99,900, the Xtreme 200S is the most affordable fully-faired motorcycle in India.
