Select Yamaha dealers across India have started accepting unofficial bookings for the upcoming 2023 R3 and the MT 03. The booking amount varies from Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000 depending on the dealership. As per our dealer sources, the official launch of these bikes is expected to take place in two months.
For those not in the know, the 2023 R3 and MT 03 were recently showcased at a dealer event in India to gauge the response of the audience which was certainly favourable. Interestingly, Yamaha also showed bigger bikes like the MT 07 and the YZF R7 at the same event and these are also making their way to our shores in all probability.
The Yamaha R3 is a fully-faired motorcycle that will lock horns with the KTM RC 390, Kawasaki Ninja 300, TVS Apache RR310, and the Keeway K300 R. It was available in India until 2019 after which the Japanese brand pulled the plugs on the bike. Although it was revered for its potent engine and versatile character, the high price tag was the Achilles' heel of the R3. This time around, we hope Yamaha prices the motorcycle more attractively.
On the other hand, the Yamaha MT 03 is the naked version of the R3 and will be launched in India for the first time. It will mainly compete against the KTM 390 Duke, BMW G 310 R, and Keeway K300 N. It shares a majority of its components with the R3 including the 321cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that makes 40.4bhp and 29.4Nm. A large part of the chassis, USD forks, monoshock, and braking hardware are also the same in both bikes.
