Ather 450S review: Image Gallery

Ather Energy recently launched its updated electric scooter lineup that consists of the 450S, and two 450X variants. We rode the 450S for a brief period and here’s what it’s like.

Ather 450S Front View

The Ather 450S looks identical to the 450X. It borrows the bodywork, the lines and the youthful design from the predecessor, and it all comes off as a good package. The 450S gets the same apron-mounted LED headlight, and the turn indicators are integrated into the handlebar cowl.

On the feature front, the Ather 450S comes with a new DeepView display rather than the TFT that we’ve seen so far on the 450X. Apart from that, the 450S’ other features too are of lower specification. It gets an 800MhZ processor, 8GB storage capacity, and 1GB RAM.

Ather 450S Right Side View

Powering the new Ather 450S is a 2.9kWh battery with a 5.4kW motor. Ather claims that the 450S gets a maximum range of 115km and a top speed of 90kmph. Its battery can be fully charged in eight hours and 36 minutes.

On the handling front, the 450S is light and agile, just what we expected after having tested the previous Ather scooters. Even in tight city traffic, the 450S slices through with ease and without much effort. That said, the suspension setup feels a little on the sportier side. But the same changes to plush once there’s a pillion at the back.

Ather has offered four ride modes on the 450S: smart eco, eco, ride and sport. While riding in eco and ride mode, the scooter’s performance had a noticeable drop. But once you switch to sport mode, the 450S feels very quick and can make the commute fun. However, it’ll be better suited if your daily run is around 15-20km.

Ather 450S Reverse Mode Switch

On the quality front, the 450S’ switch-cubes have been altered but feel quite tactile and can be easily located. It also gets an additional switch right above the mode button to ride the scooter forward or reverse.

If you want to read more about the 450S, we recommend you head to our first ride review. It covers all the aspects including the braking performance, comfort, and features and even has our verdict on whether you should spend Rs. 1,29,999 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru) on the new Ather 450S.
