- Yamaha Ray ZR 125 Fi and Street Rally 125 Fi unveiled

Motor Yamaha India has made a huge announcement today by unveiling the all-new Ray ZR 125 Fi and the more rugged-looking Street Rally 125 Fi in India. The scooters have been unveiled alongside the showcasing of the BS6 version of the MT-15 and the launch of the all-new Fascino 125 Fi. The 125cc variant of the Ray ZR and Street Rally are the successor of the current 113cc versions that have now been discontinued. The pricing of the scooter will be announced soon followed by its sales which will commence in January 2020.
In terms of styling, the new Ray ZR 125 Fi is similar to the smaller sibling but gets a more pronounced appeal due to the ‘Armoured Energy’ styling concept. The lines are edgier with sharper contours giving the scooter a more defined form. It gets a Class C compliant headlamp with Y-shaped LED position lights and individually mounted turn signal lamps. The scooter will be available in two versions, drum and disc, wherein the latter also gets a digital instrument cluster. Yamaha is offering the Ray ZR 125 Fi with choice of five colour options with include Dark Matte Blue, Metallic Black, Cyan Blue, Matte Red Metallic and Reddish Yellow Cocktail.
Based on the same platform of the Ray ZR 125 Fi, Yamaha also unveiled the rugged-looking Street Rally 125 Fi. It features brush guards in front of the handle grips to protect the rider’s hands from oncoming airflow while adding a dash of sportiness. It also gets the digital instrument console, more chunky looking body panels, finished with chunky block-pattern tyres shod on cast alloy wheels with sporty wheel rim strips.
Both scooters are built around a new chassis weighing 99kg, four kg less than its predecessor. Powering then is an all-new BS6 compliant 125cc single-cylinder engine with Yamaha’s Blue Core technology that is now capable of churning out 8bhp of max power and 9.7Nm of peak torque. That’s a 30 per cent hike over the 110cc version of the Ray ZR. With this motor, the company claims a mileage of 58kmpl which is about 16 per cent more than the 110cc motor. In terms of features, the scooters come with side stand engine cut-off function, Multi-function key with seat opener and 21-litre large under-seat storage.
As for cycle parts, the scooters are equipped with telescopic forks up front and monoshock at the rear. Braking is done by drum brakes on the base variant and a disc-drum set up of the higher-spec Ray ZR 125 Fi and Street Rally 125 Fi. The system is equipped with Yamaha’s CBS version of Unified Braking System.
Once launched, the new scooters will rival against the likes of the Honda Activa 125 Fi and the Hero Maestro Edge 125 Fi in the BS6 class of 125cc scooters.
