Moto Guzzi is going to unveil a new engine concept at the 2017 EICMA Show in Milan, Italy, next month. With its air-cooled engines being phased out due to EuroIV emission norms, this new engine will be used in its future models.
Moto Guzzi had to discontinue a few models like the Stelvio adventure tourer with the move to EuroIV emission norms, earlier this year. The company reveals that it was not feasible to invest in updating the engine to meet EuroIV, and hence had to be phased out. As of now, Moto Guzzi is working on a completely new engine, which they claim, is more advanced and radical compared to the present V7, V9 and V1400 powertrains. The company will showcase the concept version of this engine at the EICMA show, although the production version is still some time away. Moto Guzzi’s current line-up consists of the V7, V9, California and the MGX-21 cruiser.
Reports suggest that Moto Guzzi might employ water cooled valves and heads, with air-cooled cylinders to retain the essence of the brand, similar to what Harley-Davidson did with the Milwaukee-Eight. However, we might have to wait until November to know for sure.
