Despite being a true modern bagger, the Chieftain has all the classic elements that are trademark of classic Indian Motorcycle heritage. It uses the same triple-cam V-twin Thunderstroke 111 engine, which powers the rest of the Indian Motorcycle range. For 2016, the American manufacturer has updated the Chieftain with a new paint scheme – silver smoke. Check out the detailed photos of the 2016 Indian Chieftain.

The Chieftain is the first faired bagger as well as the most expensive ‘Chief’ model in Indian’s line-up of cruisers.

It wears the time-honoured lines of the vintage Indian models along with acres of chrome to boost its classic appeal.

It comes with an optional Pathfinder LED headlight kit, an electronically adjustable windshield and keyless ignition.

Built on an aluminium frame, the Chieftain rides on 46mm telescopic front forks and a pneumatic rear monoshock.

The inner fairing gets original factory colours. The instrument cluster consists of a digital display and two analogue clocks.

The swooping rear gets hardcase saddlebags, with chrome accents and remote locking. The exhaust is partly hidden below these hard cases.

While the rider and pillion are seated on premium leather seats, the flat floorboards and the sweptback handlebars make long distance touring an undemanding experience.

The classic Indian badging on the tank harks back to the original insignia of the company, which has remained unchanged in more than a century.

The War Bonnet and the iconic figurehead mounted on the deep skirted front fender enhance the Chieftain’s classic appeal.

The Chieftain comes with ABS and cruise control to improve its safety and usability.

The Chieftain comes with premium speakers integrated into the saddlebag lids, which complement the speakers embedded in the fairing.

The 1811cc V-Twin engine churns out 161Nm of peak torque and is mated to a six-speed transmission. It comes with either a High Flow Air Cleaner or an optional Big Sucker air intake.

The Indian Chieftain is offered in four paint schemes -

Indian red

Thunder black

Star silver and thunder black

Silver smoke
