Hero Mavrick 440 vs Royal Enfield Classic 350 – Competition Check

Hero MotoCorp’s latest offering, the Mavrick 440 debuted just a few days ago. It is now the most powerful and expensive bike from Hero and is based on the Harley-Davidson X440. Moreover, the new Mavrick 440 rivals the Royal Enfield Classic 350 in the said segment. So, we have compared the two bikes on paper and here is the result.

Design

While both motorcycles get retro styling cues including the round headlight and circular mirrors, the Mavrick appears more modern since it gets LED illumination, a muscular fuel tank, sharp tank extensions and an overall youthful silhouette. The Royal Enfield Classic 350 is a thoroughbred old-school offering with its bulb illumination, tear-drop-shaped fuel tank, and chrome finishing on certain parts.

Hero offers the Mavrick in three variants – Base, Mid, and Top. Royal Enfield offers the Classic 350 in two trims – Single Channel ABS and Dual-Channel ABS.

Features

Hero Mavrick 440 Instrument Cluster

Hero MotoCorp has offered LED illumination, dual-channel ABS, a fully digital instrument console and smartphone connectivity on the Mavrick 440. Meanwhile, the Royal Enfield Classic 350 gets bulb illumination, analogue console and optional Tripper Navigation console on its features list. Moreover, the dual-channel ABS is also available as a separate variant and not a standard fitment.

Engine

Powering the new Hero Mavrick is a 440cc, air and oil-cooled engine. It makes 27bhp at 6,000rpm and 36Nm at 4,000rpm and is linked to a six-speed gearbox. The Classic 350 gets a 349cc, air/oil-cooled engine and it makes 20.2bhp and a torque of 27Nm. It is linked to a five-speed gearbox. The Mavrick not only gets a larger engine but also more power, torque and extra gear. The latter comes in handy when cruising at higher speeds.

Hardware

Both bikes ride on telescopic front forks and dual rear shocks. The braking hardware too comprises a single disc at both ends for the two bikes. The Mavrick rides on spoke wheels for the Base model and alloy for the Mid and Top trims. The latter two get tubeless tyres. The Classic 350 uses spoke wheels on all variants and tubed tyres. Moreover, the Mavrick gets 17-inch wheels at both ends while the Royal Enfield bike gets a 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel. This changes the handling dynamics for the two models.

Variants and Price

The asking price for the Hero Mavrick 440 is Rs. 1,99,000 for the Base model, Rs. 2,14,000 for the Mid and Rs. 2,24,000 for the Top trim (all ex-showroom, pan India). The Royal Enfield Classic 350 retails at Rs. 1,93,080 for the single-channel ABS and goes up to Rs. 2,24,755 (both ex-showroom, Delhi) for the dual-channel variant.
