If looks, performance and thrill is what you are looking for in a bike, look no further. There are any number of bikes available in the market, but for you to stand apart in a crowd, this is it. Butter smooth engine, stunning looks and ferocious power, yet very user-friendly, r3 is a dream come true vehicle. after riding the usual commuter bikes in india and also after damaging my spine 10 years ago, i thought my dream of owning a superbike will remain just that. But after pondering for quite some time, i did take the bold decision to buy a new one; this time it had to be special. Not the usual stuff. Looks were important for me. So was the performance. And the reliability. The price was not the criterion. Hence, i zeroed in on the yamaha yzf r3. And believe me, from day one, i have had no regrets. Not for a moment. I use it for my daily commute and have had 3 long distance runs in the last one year. Absolute marvel, this machine is. The incredible pick-up and the assured braking with the abs provides necessary confidence to go to 3 figure speeds on the highway with ease. I am not into racing, and cruising at 110-120 kmph is very comfortable on this vehicle, though i must confess that i have reached a maximum of 153 kmph on the highway. But the most important point to note is that i did not know i had crossed 150 until i glanced at the speedometer; it is that smooth, and the engine asks for more. Long distance rides of 300 kms nonstop was not tiring ! the speedometer is very clear and informative. The seating position is absolutely great; i can vouch on that because i myself have had a damaged spine, but riding this beauty never troubled my back one bit. And because of the enormous power, you do not feel that the bike is heavy. It is 169 kgs,, but you do not feel it. Handling this vehicle is really easy. And the metzeler tyres provide fantastic grip even on wet roads. You feel reassured once you are in the saddle. the cons, i must specify. The bike lacks a grab bar; hence, getting it back when parked, especially in slopes is very difficult. The pillion seat is not comfortable, but then, these kind of bikes are for solo riders. And i do not like the exhaust sound; i expected something much better. regarding fuel efficiency, one does not buy this kind of beasts for frugality. Though my town-commute provides 20 kmpl, on the highway i have achieved 29 kmpl. I am happy with the average. in summary, this bike has rolled back my age by more than a decade. A fantastic vehicle worth owning.

  • Just a very thorough review on the r3

    Kyle Nigel

I would like to instill my whole view of this bike to those who are willing to buy this motorcycle or browsing the market for one. Let’s start with the buying experience,in general the buying process is very normal and the waiting time is considerable(1-2 months). The people here at vellore were happy to help me with any details and informed us if there were any problems. At first i ordered the matte black but after seeing the yamaha blue there was no going back. My riding experience? well i did not know how to ride bike before i got the r3,for an indian that’s very absurd of why you would buy such a powerful machine but i believed the process and i learned almost everything on my r3. Riding the bike is just joyous and one of the best things in my life. The engine is this beautiful work of art which is willing to help enjoy the whole rpm range whenever you want. This is such a smooth engine and the power delivery is just amazing. This bike having a cable actuated throttle means that you have to learn your throttle control cause if you don’t do it right, the bike will lash out it’s power and it won’t be very forgiving which is definitely part of the whole experience i would say. Braking is the best i would say in its category cause he brakes are just amazing, will never fail to brake on time and the abs is very good, kicks in whenever you need it. Long rides are no problem for the bike,it’s 14 liter tank will allow you to go almost 300 kilometers?not sure haven’t tested that part of the bike but very efficient for a twin! heating and heat dissipation is really good on the bike. The bike seldom overheats and shuts down. In my experience, the bike has never done this to me so it speaks for itself. Let’s talk about the good stuff, the power! well this bike is a beast and it will surely put a smile on your face everytime you give it the twist of the wrist and the way it delivers the power is more likely depends on how well you use the throttle so be nice and be accurate! the exhaust note is very very good and it’s loud like “wow i didn’t expect it to be that loud” and the sounds the engine makes while you accelerate is just blissful. Riding the bike for a considerable amount of distance won’t be a problem cause the bike is very comfortable, easy on the hands and back and you won’t be tired of riding it within a few 100km if touring. Now for the pros and cons well let’s talk about the pros 1. The heart of the bike: a recipe for speed and success, and i don’t mean it lightly cause this engine is very reliable and amazing to work with. 2.A fantastic looker of a bike! well i would say this bike is a head turner definitely even in the racing blue cause most people think it’s a r15 most of the time but still definitely i’m my opinion is the best looking motorcycle in its category. 3. Reliability and performance:no doubt this bike is reliable, being a twin engine this is just smooth and reliable and the performance is just satisfying and scary if you are not ready for it. 4. Lots of room for improvement: wait why is this a pro?well if you do have some extra cash in your pockets then you can make a lot of changes to the bike and make it a track beast or a touring bike or just a custom bike if you want to! now time for the heart wrenching part of the bike, the cons, 1.The infamous r3 leaning: at first when you read thai you will find this confusing but most riders who have bought this in india have experienced this sway in the bike where it leans towards to the left, i have had this happen to me sometimes a but it won’t hinder you too much cause this happens very rarely. 2.Price point: the biggest elephant in the room is the pricing of the bike at 3.5 ex showroom. If only yamaha made it a bit less pricey there would definitely be a bump in sales. 3.Spares: spares are not rare to find but the problem is that they have to ship it from indonesia and this takes about a month which is deeply frustrating,so..Don’t crags the bike. 4. The rims and the tyres:well the rims part is that it’s a dirt magnet and it gets very dirty in a very short amount of time the tyres are just a tad bit small in my opinion, the grip and life is amazing from the metzelers but the size of the back tyre is just disappointing. Recommendation? well i’m going to put a 160 in the back and 120 in the front but most people will say no cause of the drag and less speed because but speed isn’t everything for me so i would rather have and even smoother and big tyre over losing a few kmphs cause it’s about the ride.Well that’s just my views of the bike, hopefully you find this helpful and as a eye-opener! have a good day!

I would say that have a paddock stand so that you can clean the chains yourself instead of taking it to the showroom and have some chain spray of course. Engine liquids for improved performance and smooths is also recommended(liquemoly is very good!)rim cleaning an be a bit of a hassle and it’s a dirt magnet so always try to keep the rims clean.

I am using r3 from last 2 years
    pro:
    power full engine
    good handling
    dual channel ABS
    0 vibration
    cons:
The Headlamp is not LED but you don't face any problems.
expensive service cost and expensive parts.
less ground clearance according to Indian roads (sometimes is touch the ground)
    mileage is not pocket friendly
but when you ride 160 plus then you understand all of your money is worth it run so smooth even 160 plus.

  • Absolutely stunning !

    Dr Prashanth Jana

Most amazing bike. Hopefully i would purchase this bike as soon as possible. But seriously this bike is awesome. It is one of the superbike from yamaha but the best medium budget superbike from yamaha . But it has a competitor like ktm, ninja ,pulsar, dominar. This is the bike i would prefer because one advantage is the abs system it has.

    Bhavesh Jadav

I am using r3 from last 2 years
    pro:
    power full engine
    good handling
    dual channel ABS
    0 vibration
    cons:
The Headlamp is not LED but you don't face any problems.
expensive service cost and expensive parts.
less ground clearance according to Indian roads (sometimes is touch the ground)
    mileage is not pocket friendly
but when you ride 160 plus then you understand all of your money is worth it run so smooth even 160 plus.

I am using r3 from last 2 years
    pro:
    power full engine
    good handling
    dual channel ABS
    0 vibration
    cons:
The Headlamp is not LED but you don't face any problems.
expensive service cost and expensive parts.
less ground clearance according to Indian roads (sometimes is touch the ground)
    mileage is not pocket friendly
but when you ride 160 plus then you understand all of your money is worth it run so smooth even 160 plus.

This bike has a very good engine with twin cylinder 321 cc engine. Which produce 41.4 hp 29.6 nm and i love its performance and looks. But cant afford it. Hehehehe. I wish i will own it one day.Now this bike has a one plus point which is abs. And i will definitely suggest everyone for this bike.100 out of 100 for this bike.
