UM Bikes

UM is an American manufacturer of a variety of motorcycles. Established in the early 2000s by Octavio Villegas Llano, UM is based out of Miami, Florida. Inspired by the perilous living conditions of the Latin American population of the mid-20th Century, Mr Villegas wanted to create and offer transportation products and opportunities to the low and mid-income population through which the UM brand was born. UM aims at offering motorcycles at an affordable price to the masses without skimping on performance and technology.

UM International has teamed up with UP-based firm Lohia Auto and has invested Rs 100 crore in India. Manufacturing of the motorcycles is already underway at Lohia Auto’s Kashipur facility in Uttarakhand after bookings were opened at the 2016 Auto Expo. Headquartered out of New Delhi in India, the company has started appointing dealers across India.

Currently, UM’s line-up for India consists of just three cruiser motorcycles. Christened as the Renegade series, all three bikes will be powered by a 280cc, single-cylinder and liquid-cooled motor. The cheapest offering is the Renegade Sport S which is an entry-level cruiser. The Renegade Commando represents a blacked-out and slightly modified version of the Sport S. The Renegade Classic will be their flagship cruiser with wide handlebars, a windscreen and retro paint scheme. The UM models come equipped with utilitarian features like USB charging port, service alert system, blind spot mirrors, 360-degree LED light system and anti-flat system for the tubeless tyres which make them a good value for money proposition. UM also offers a host of optional accessories like saddlebags for those wishing to take their motorcycles touring.
