Ather 340: What else can you buy?

The Ather 340 electric scooter has been launched in India at Rs 1.09 lakhs (on-road). At this price point the market offers an exhaustive list of petrol-powered motorcycles and scooters that you could choose from. Here is what the grid looks like-

The Indian market offers three scooters in a similar price range as the Ather 340. There is the Vespa SXL 125 which sports a 125cc engine that delivers 9.9bhp and 10.6Nm of torque. It retails at Rs 1.01 lakhs.

The scooter is also offered in a 150cc variant called the SXL150 priced at Rs 1.08 lakhs. You could also opt for the VXL150 which retails for Rs 1.03 lakhs. Both scooters are powered by a 150cc engine that produces 11.4bhp and 11.5Nm of torque.

The only faired bike in this list is the Suzuki Gixxer SF Fi priced at Rs 1.11 lakhs. It is the fully-faired version of its streetfighter sibling, the Gixxer. Powering the bike is a 154cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine that produces 14.6bhp and 14Nm of torque via a five-speed gearbox. It is also available in a carburetted version which is powered by the same engine.

The standard Gixxer SF retails at Rs 99,981. In a similar body style is the Pulsar 220F with a semi-fairing and distinctive looking projector headlamp. The bike is powered by a 220cc single-cylinder engine that puts out 21bhp and 19Nm torque. It is priced at Rs 1.05 lakhs.

Suzuki also offers cruisers in the form of the Intruder and Intruder Fi which retail at Rs 1.10 lakhs and 1.18 lakhs respectively. The cruisers derive styling cues from the bigger Intruder M1800R. Both are powered by a 154cc, single-cylinder engine that produces 14.6bhp and 14Nm of torque. While the Intruder Fi uses a fuel-injection system, the standard Intruder makes do with a carburetted one.

There also is the Bajaj Avenger 220 Street and 220 Cruise on offer. The Avenger 220 Street is a city cruiser with a modern, blacked-out look. The Avenger 220 Cruise on the other hand, sports oodles of chrome, a sweptback handlebar and a tall windscreen to boost its touring capabilities. Both bikes are powered by a 220cc single-cylinder engine that produces 19bhp and 17.5Nm of torque. The Avenger 220 Street and 220 Cruise retail at Rs 1.05 lakhs.

You could also have a look at the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V priced at Rs 1.06 lakhs. It is powered by a 197cc single-cylinder engine that produces 20.7bhp and 18.1Nm of torque.
