Yamaha FZ25 BS6 vs Suzuki Gixxer 250 BS6: Spec Comparison

The Yamaha FZ25 BS6 will be launched post the COVID-19 lockdown. Besides a cleaner engine, it has been updated in several other aspects over the previous model. While we wait for its official launch and pricing to be announced, let’s check out how it fares against its closest rival, the Suzuki Gixxer 250 BS6, in terms of specifications and features.

Design and Features

The styling of the FZ25 was already muscular with a beefy fuel tank and extensions along with a sleek tail section. To make it look more aggressive, Yamaha has bestowed the bike with a refreshed front fascia comprising of a more compact and radically styled headlamp unit. The company will also introduce a fancier ‘S’ version with additional elements such as a tall visor, knuckle guards and golden alloy wheels.

As for the Gixxer 250, it is a fairly new motorcycle launched just last year. It boasts of Suzuki’s new-age styling which is identical to its smaller 155cc sibling, the Gixxer. With a diamond-shaped headlamp, chiseled fuel tank and angular tank extensions, the Gixxer 250 looks more compact and stripped down as compared to the FZ25.

On the feature front, both bikes are nearly on the same page incorporating full-LED headlamp and tail lamp and an LCD instrument cluster. However, the FZ25 gets an extra feature in the form of a side stand engine cut-off switch.

Engine

The Gixxer 250 and FZ25 both are powered by a 250cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine. However, the former is more powerful as it produces 26.1bhp and 22.2Nm. Moreover, with a six-speed transmission, it gets an additional cog along with an oil-cooled setup. On the other hand, the FZ25 produces 20.5bhp and 20.1Nm, gets air-cooling and comes mated to a five-speed gearbox.

Cycle parts

Both bikes are nearly identical in terms of cycle parts. They are underpinned by a diamond-type chassis and ride on 17-inch alloy wheels. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks up front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking is taken care of by disc brakes at both ends assisted by dual-channel ABS. While the fuel tank capacity of the Gixxer is 12 litre, the FZ25 incorporates a larger 14 litre unit.

Pricing

The Suzuki Gixxer 250 carries a sticker price of Rs 1.63 lakh. Although Yamaha hasn’t revealed the prices of the FZ25 and FZS 25 BS6, we believe they will pegged around Rs 10,000-15,000 more over the BS4 version which costs Rs 1.35 lakh. That will still keep it on the more affordable side of the spectrum as compared to the Gixxer 250.
