I bought the honda cb shine from dhruvesh honda, bangalore on oct,2013. Since i got my bike, gear shift is not working properly. I am driving daily for average 25 km. Gear shifting is not smooth. Sometimes while up-shifting gear stuck. In this situation bike stalls & engine makes very weird noise. It is very dangerous when driving on highway and i feel unsafe.

Sometimes while down-shifting gear pedal seems loos the control over gearbox (gear slips) and nothing happens when i push the pedal. In this case, i have to take the bike side of the road somehow keeping clutch pressed, turn the engine off and then shift the gear to neutral by dragging bike to and fro.

I really feel unsafe while driving bike. I bought the bike because of its reputation and i am very disappointed.

The service of dhruvesh honda is the worst service i have ever seen. The service advisor is not even ready to listen the problem. According to him everything is as per company setting and working fine.

The first free service has gone totally waste. I told them about 5-6 issue and neither of them was fixed after service. It seems they just washed the vehicle and given me back.

And finally last but not least, i tried to put a complain on honda website, but "contact us" page on website (http://www.Honda2wheelersindia.Com/contact.Aspx) is not working as usual.

Best example how big companies and cheating and fooling people in india. Anyone! please advise me if you have faced similar gearshift problem with cb shine.

engine performance is not due for commenting yet as i am a new user of honda having used many popular brands. Inspite of the offered 65 kms per liter i have got only 50 kms on my regulare ride. Gear box hasnt shown any problem yet. All mud gets deposited on the rear swing frame as there is no guard to separate from rear wheal. The ugliest thing is that the chain is already loose at 3000 kms and the service people didnt not even care to fix it though they were notified at the service point. The pilionn rider grip has almost broke my leg twice as it stands hig and away from the seat.

Ride quality & handling

all controlls are on right hand thump which makes it hard at situations where they are essential. No park lights. No safthy chest for documents

almost disappointing for an experienced bike user specially who is aware of international honda standards.

chain kit is around 20000 kms but in some shine vehicle it is found that it started creating issue around 10000kms,

same happend to my bike and i had to pay around 1100/- to replace this part.

If life of this part is around 20000kms then why should customer pay this amount?

either honda pvt. Ltd. Should replace part or the part quality of your company is not good.

I am very disappointed that vehicle is requiring so much maintenance and money only in approx 1 year.

In long run this type of issue will result in reducing trust on this reputed global brand which was my all time favourite.

I hope your company will get back to me for this issue.

Honda shine is a silent tiger on road although with some serious shortcomings. I have briefly listed the pros and cons for my honda shine bought in march 2010:

• - it has good pick up and maneuverability for navigating through dense and unruly indian traffic. Also you never feel the load of a pillion rider.


• - It is designed for a very comfortable posture. Combined with robust shock ups, it ensures you have no back ache or fatigue for about 100 km ride.


• - Refined engine with a pleasant sound.


• - High reliability and durability - i have run it for over 30000 kms now and it still gives a brand new feel.


• - Low maintenance – servicing at every 3000 km and oil change at every 2000 km will make sure you make no extra expenses on maintenance.


• - A consistent mileage of about 45kmpl which is decent for this kind of power and pick up.

Cons

• - missing fifth gear – for its power and pick up, the bike should have had a fifth gear to ensure smoothness on highway. It produces high vibration and sound on high speeds.


• - Chain dislocation – the chain surprisingly gets off frequently due to dryness and loosening. Make sure you keep oiling and tightening the chain every 2 weeks.


• - Common spare parts like chain cover, handle covers, front hood, indicators etc. Are not available at service centers especially when your model is over 2 years old. Honda keeps making minor changes in accessories every year and it ignores the old customers. Its like they expect us to buy a new bike every year.


• - Honda has the most unresponsive customer support system. They never respond to e mails.


• - The service centers are understaffed and underequipped. It takes a long waiting to get your bike serviced.

so if you are ok with a callous service and support from the manufacture, if you can deal with minor technology/design issues and are not high on mileage, honda shine is your best treat on road. It will give you a riding pleasure that no other bike can give.

It is good for daily commute. But has some issues, like cold starting it is a big problem in winters, and morning start even in summers. The bike always needs to start using choke, and riding first few kilometer will have jerk due to poor throttle response. After 4-5 mins of riding it gets normal.
The tyre size is thin and hard breaking results in skidding of motorcycle. So, I upgraded the rear tyre (MRF Zapper 100/80/18) at 3500km for better grip.
First 10000-12000km had an economy of 44-45kmpl, after that it increased to 55-57kmpl. Highest achieved by me was 62-63kmpl.

Style i had purchased this bike because it is carrying honda badge. The styling is good... That's made me to commit blunder by purchase the useless bike.. Head light styling is excellent.. From back side it looks ok.

Engine performance, fuel economy and gearbox this is where my expectations gone wrong... My first mistake was, i had taken test drive in busy trafic route where i couldn't cross even 30km/ hr speed. Fuel economy 30-35 km/ litre in city & 40-45 in highways. Engine is smooth till 40km/hr speed.. There after engine gives lot of vibrations... I was told by service personnel that, since the engine is new one some vibrations are natural... But engine vibrations becoming more and more from 2000 km to 5000km.

Ride quality & handling ride quality is good up to 30km/hr speed... After that, i never dared to increase speed keeping in mind the engine vibrations. Braking is very bad.. This bike is not having sufficient road grip.. It simply skids...

Final words my suggestions to any honda motor cycle buyers is that, do rigorous testing before buying any bike. As i had lost my money because not aware about that, shine bike will give lot of vibrations when it crosses 50km mark speed.

I could finally get ride-off shine bike at the cost of selling it at half of the purchasing cost within one year.

Areas of improvement this bike needs complete re-design & re-engineering from top to bottom unless withdrawn.

Style i have been using this black one for the past 2 years. Everyday i travel about 65 km in a worst condition road. The speed in which i travel is in and around 50 km/hr. With this consistancy, i'm getting milage of about 60 km/lit. Some times, 64 km/lit.

Every 3000 km i change my engine oil & a i do a general service. Even though its been 2 years, it looks brand new still. Just because i do wax coating (or) tuflon coating once in every 2 months. So far i have travelled about 48,000 kms. However, because of all these above said maintanance engine sounds smooth. Comfortable max speed could be around 80-90 km/hr.

Look wise: it suits u in all kind of costumes right from the formals to casuals.

Cons: intensity of head light is not that great. Very very dim :( hard to ride in dark.

Style : after comparing all 125 cc bikes, i found this bike best. Very stylish bike in 125 cc segment. Looks like a 150 cc bike.

Engine performance, fuel economy and gearbox : best pickup in 125 cc engine bikes. No bike of 125cc can beat it in pickup, as well as power. It can get 40 km in 4 seconds. It is my new bike only riden for 200 kms, not driven beyond 40. Engine sound is good. I think average is above 50 km/ltr without any service.

Ride quality & handling : very good balance. Very easy to drive in city as it can be started when in gear. Comes in both kick and self.

Final words : i suggest all buyers to join me in honda shine group. As it is best bike in 125 cc segment. I think it will give mileage 60+ after services.

Areas of improvement : it can be improved by digital speedometer and parking lights. If it is possible then the rear tyre should be little bit bigger.

Final words : i suggest all buyers to join me in honda shine group. As it is best bike in 125 cc segment. I think it will give mileage 60+ after services.

Areas of improvement : it can be improved by digital speedometer and parking lights. If it is possible then the rear tyre should be little bit bigger.
