I owned hero hf dawn in the year 2014. And i have ridden this bike more than 38,000 km till today. So, i will try my best to give the detailed review of this bike.
So, here we go.!
1 - buying experience
It is quite ok. I live in small town. So, from the local dealer, i purchased the dawn
So, you can't expect too much. Yet, it was quite descent.
2- riding
I am riding this bike from last almost 4 years. So, i can say that as a commuter it performs very well.
You can go through city traffic very easily. It's seating position is so good that you just love to ride in city. Traffic will not be an issue for you.
On highway, you can cruise at the speed of 60 km/h. But when you rev it hard and go beyond 80 km/h, then it starts vibrating. And make you feel that you are pushing it hard. But, it is quite ok, because, you can't expect too much from a 97 cc engine.
3. Looks and performance :
Looks : looks is not too good. You'll get only necessary parts required to cover the chassis.
It's a entry level commuter, so , i think hero has done this for cost cutting.
You'll get very basic meter console, and the switches etc.
Performance : and the matter of performance, it is very good in commuting. You can reach at 60 km/h easily. Gear shifting is quite good. Suspension is not too soft, but ok for the city riding. It's not as good as the nitrox one.
To check the real performance, even i rode it almost a 300 km a day. So, on highway, same cruise at 60 km/h no problem. But you have to let it cool down for at least 15-20 min after every 80-90 km of continuous riding. Otherwise, the riding comfort was too good, even after riding 300 km in a day.
Clutch : clutch is soft. No issue of clutch wire break, or anything even after 4 years.
Brakes : you'll get drum brake at both the ends, and it's quite decent to stop this bike.
Tires : it gets dunlop easy cruiser 2.75 section 18" tires both the ends. It is too good. Performance of this tires are very nice, even after 38,000 km of riding, i have not replaced, although it works well, till now.
Maintenance : it doesn't require too much care. You have to go for servicing once in a six months/6k - 6.5k km. And it costs less than a thousand rupees.
Mileage : if you ride it well, maintain it well, go for services at a regular intervals, then you'll get the mileage of around 65 km/l in city and more than 70-72 km/l on highway.
Pricing : 38,000 to 43,000 inr (ex-showroom)
5. Pros and cons
So, let me give you the final overview of my review by giving pros and cons of this bike :
Pros :
- ride quality
- riding comfort
- mileage
- build quality
Cons :
- very basic styling
- basic meter console (no fuel indicator)

So, this was my review about hero hf dawn.
Finally, if a looks doesn't matter and you just need a very good commuter in a tighter budget, you should go for it.
