Triumph Motorcycles has confirmed that it will update its India portfolio with the launch of the new Speed Triple 1200 RS in the country on 28 January, 2021. The British two-wheeler brand will unveil the motorcycle on 26 January, 2021 which is when we will get all the finer details about the upcoming roadster. While we await those details, here we tell you what to expect from the new Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS.
Design
The company has released a teaser video for the Speed Triple 1200 RS, revealing select styling details about the motorcycle. The video gave a glimpse of the updated headlight design and the carbon-fibre front fender on the streetfighter. The front fascia will feature a Triumph Street Triple RS style twin-pod headlight with an angry-eye design. The updated setup will give the motorcycle a more aggressive look than its predecessor. The teaser video also showcased the silhouette of the motorcycle, giving a brief look at the muscular fuel tank and the step-up seat.
Engine
Apart from the styling upgrade, Triumph Motorcycles has also revised the mechanical specifications of the roadster. As the name suggests, the upcoming Speed Triple 1200 RS will pack a higher displacement than its predecessor. While the company hasn’t revealed any details, a report from last year suggested that the upcoming Speed Triple 1200 RS will be powered by a 1,160cc, inline three-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor as against the 1,050cc engine on the old model. The added displacement should bring higher power and torque output numbers to compete against rival such as the KTM 1290 Super Duke R, BMW S1000R, and the likes.
Hardware
Given that it's the flagship roadster in the company's portfolio, the Speed Triple 1200 RS should pack top-of-the-line hardware. Triumph's middleweight roadster, the Street Triple RS packs Ohlins-sourced suspension setup and Brembo callipers, and the Speed Triple 1200 RS should receive similar, if not better, hardware.
Electronics
Being the flagship roadster in the company’s portfolio, expect the Speed Triple 1200 RS to get a comprehensive electronics package. The rival products in the class such as the KTM Super Duke R and the BMW S 1000 XR pack electronics such as cornering ABS, lean sensitive traction control system, wheelie control, and launch control system. Triumph should target to bring the safety net at par with the rivals, and we could see similar electronic rider aids on the Speed Triple 1200 RS. It will also be a step up from the electronic suite that is available on the Street Triple RS.
The motorcycle should also benefit from a Bluetooth-enabled colour TFT display that will work with the MyTriumph smartphone app - a feature that is already available on several existing Triumph models in the country. The MyTriumph app brings access to GoPro controls, turn-by-turn navigation system, and music and phone operations.
Price
Triumph Motorcycles will announce the India price for the new Speed Triple 1200 RS on 28 January, 2021. We expect the new model to carry a price premium over its predecessor, and arrive in the Rs 12-14 lakh price bracket.
