After launching the DesertX in India recently, Ducati has further expanded the bike’s availability in the Asian market by launching it in Malaysia. The motorcycle has been priced at RM 112,900 (approximately Rs 21.11 lakh) in the country while it costs Rs 17.91 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
The DesertX is Ducati’s most off-road-focussed motorcycle. The hardware package is meant to tackle all kinds of terrain with a 21-18-inch spoke wheel combination shod with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres. This is accompanied by a long-travel suspension setup comprising fully-adjustable upside-down forks and a monoshock, both sourced from KYB. Bringing it to a halt are twin 320mm discs with Brembo M50 monobloc radial callipers at the front and a single 265mm rotor with a Brembo double-piston floating calliper at the back.
Powering the DesertX is Ducati’s 937cc, L-Twin, liquid-cooled engine. While this is the same unit that does duty on Ducati’s other middle-weight offerings, it’s tuned differently to suit its ADV character. The motor comes mated to a six-speed gearbox and produces 110bhp and 92Nm. Furthermore, the DesertX is a typical Ducati in terms of electronic aids and incorporates six riding modes, four power modes, cruise control, Bosch IMU, engine brake control, traction control, wheelie control, bidirectional quickshifter, and cornering ABS.
The Ducati DesertX competes against the likes of the Honda CRL1100L Africa Twin, BMW F850 GS, and Triumph Tiger 900 Rally.
