Hero MotoCorp’s electric scooter arm, Vida has filed a new patent for an upcoming scooter. A close look at the images reveals that this could possibly be a more family-oriented electric scooter based on the Vida V1 platform.
Beginning with the design, Vida has chosen a balance between style and useability. The front apron, for instance, looks sportier with its creases and centrally mounted headlight, likely an LED unit. The turn indicators are placed on the handlebar cowl and the overall design is in keeping with today’s times.
Move to the side and that’s where we see the practical aspect of the design. These panels are large and mostly flat, save for a crease line that’s running across its entire length. Going by the size of the side section, one can presume a massive underseat storage area.
If this scooter is based on the Vida V1, expect to see a compartment under the long seat to store removable batteries with the rest of the space dedicated to haul other items like bags, groceries etc. At present, the Vida V1 uses two removable batteries with a total capacity of 3.94kWh and a real world range of 110km
The new scooter could also use the same 6kW (peak), 25Nm electric motor that powers the Vida V1. The motor seen in the patent images appears to be the same as seen on the V1, leading to the speculation.
Lastly, the new Vida electric scooter could be based on the Vida V1 chassis. That said, it seems to have a relatively basic suspension setup, with a coil spring unit at the front and rear. The scooter seems to be riding on 12-inch alloy wheels while the braking setup consists of a disc at the front and drum at the rear.
Expect Vida to position this scooter as a no-frills option in its portfolio. This could mean it might get a more simple LCD or a basic TFT display unlike the rich, colour TFT display on the Vida V1 Pro that also offers Bluetooth connectivity.
If this is the case, expect this new Vida EV to sit much below the Vida V1 Pro’s Rs 1.26 lakh, ex-showroom price.
