Introduction

There’s a new tyre brand in town, and it goes by the name Reise. This new brand is a result of two known companies coming together – Mitas Tires from Europe and Mumbai-based Mahansaria group. These companies have been making and selling tyres for construction vehicles for many years, but are new in the world of two-wheelers – a highly lucrative segment due to the high sales volumes.

With the TrailR, the idea was to offer tyres to get the performance of both sides of the world – road and off-road. Sadly, entry-level ADV lovers have barely any tyres to choose from. The CEAT, with its GripXL, has been taking care of such needs for many years, but these rubbers are primarily focused on on-road performance rather than off-road. The TrailR from Reise claims to provide an equal balance between off-road and on-road performance.

The Specs

The TrailR tyres are currently available in 90/90-21 for the front and 120/90-17 for the rear. The tyres will fit the Royal Enfield Himalayan and the Hero Xpulse 200. There’s also one 120/80-18 on offer. While these motorcycles are positioned as entry-level adventure bikes, most of the time they are seen on the roads. But the TrailR tyres with their off-road biased specs promise to cater to riders who spend more time off the road.

Firstly, the tyres have a big block tread pattern and a wider footprint. The centre section has deeper treads, and the shoulder area has a smaller depth to aid cornering performance. The company claims they have used technology that minimises abrasion, thus leading to longer tyre life.

The front tyre weighs 4.4kg, whereas the rear is heavier at 5.2kg. At the time of purchase, the tyres don’t come with a tube, and that has to be purchased separately in case there’s a need for a replacement.

What's next?

I’ll be using the Reise TrailR tyres on my personal Hero Xpulse 200. Currently, the CEAT GripXL tyres are about 2.3 years old and have clocked close to 14,000km. The rear tyre is at the end of its life, thanks to my obsession with sliding in the dirt. However, the front can go on for a while. But now, with the TrailR tyres coming home, I’m looking forward to testing these tyres while commuting and during my weekend off-road getaways.
