Hero Motocorp is planning to enter the premium bike segment with the help of its American partner Harley-Davidson. Although there's no official information regarding the engine size, we expect the bikes to be powered by a 350cc mill or above.
Hero Motocorp is known for its 70 percent market share in the entry-level bike segment of the country. Now, the company is planning to enter the middle-weight segment which is dominated right now by Royal Enfield. The Indian automaker never introduced a bike beyond 225cc, marking this decision to be their biggest-ever bet.
Hero's biggest bike to date has been the Karizma ZMR powered by a 225cc engine, which was discontinued in 2019. However, as of now the biggest bike in the company's portfolio is the Xtreme 200S and the Xpulse series.
Hero Motocorp officially stated that the main objective of the Harley-Davidson tie-up is the license to build the middle-weight segment, which is a very profitable. The lead player in the country has a market share of around 90 percent. Hence, the efforts to penetrate into this segment.
In October last year, Hero Motocorp had announced its partnership with Harley-Davidson. Under this partnership, the Indian automaker had confirmed to develop, sell and service Harley motorcycles in the country. The agreement also stated that Hero will sell parts, accessories, merchandise, riding gear and apparels through its existing dealership network along with Harley dealers.
