After launching the track-focused Aprilia RS 457 in India and global markets, the Italian bike maker seems to be working on a naked version of the sportsbike. But, the test mule seen in the spy pictures looks more like a retro roadster than a Tuono variant of the RS 457.
Judging by the spy images, the Aprilia retro roadster uses a new tubular frame and subframe, and a single-sided monoshock. The pre-production prototype also features retro bodywork, round LED headlamp and single discs at both ends. Being a prototype, these could be mock fitments, and the actual styling and components of the production-spec model could be different.
Meanwhile, it is clear from the crankcase cover and cylinder design that the retro roadster is using Aprilia’s new 457cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled motor. This engine develops 47bhp at 9,400rpm and a peak torque of 43.5Nm at 6,700rpm. The motor uses a six-speed gearbox.
Regarding cycle parts, the test mule is seen sporting the same upside-down front forks as the Aprilia RS 457, while it rides on 17-inch alloy wheels. Lastly, the motorcycle features a TFT display for instrumentation and an LED headlamp.
The Aprilia 457 retro roadster is still some time away from going into production and we expect it to be launched sometime in the second half of 2024. Although it doesn’t have a direct rival, the motorcycle will give competition to the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and the Kawasaki Eliminator 450 once it is launched in India.
