Yoga Ramchandrakanth is an engineer by education, but she became an HR professional as she believed and always felt she could connect with people better. HR was seen as one of the contributors to software companies; that’s when she thought she could get into that space. With her technical background, it was a cakewalk for her to understand the language the software companies speak and cater to their requirements.
Today, she is the Region Compensation & Benefits Director – India and ASEAN regions at Valeo. An accredited Bullet Proof Manager, she learnt many leadership skills. According to her, the real motivating factor for her to be in HR is that she gets to try a lot of initiatives.
“I have been given complete autonomy in trying different initiatives. We digitalised the rewards and recognition programme in 2017 itself, while it is being talked about much now. We also have an employee well-being and assistance programme launched in 2019, which helped us during the pandemic. Recently, we introduced Chatbot in HR, and we are deploying Artificial Intelligence in recruitment,” she says.
Yoga says the entire spectrum of recruitment has changed over a period of time because the car as a product has transformed in the last decade. Talent scarcity has always existed; however, how one can market it as a company and be able to attract is the key to getting and retaining talents. Being a millennial, she could understand the requirements of the millennial and GenZ employees.
At Valeo, she has earned extensive experience and worked across all levels and different sectors, including R&D, software, software services and manufacturing. She has contributed to the development of the R&D footprint for Valeo, which later developed the base for other software centres of the company.
“We were one among very few companies, who demonstrated that people with disabilities could comfortably work in a manufacturing set-up. We also deployed transgender in HR in our company. I was fortunate to get that kind of autonomy to try new initiatives,” she says.
Yoga believes women and men are equal. Once given the right opportunity, women can do wonders in their jobs. “I got the right opportunity, and I was recognised in my career,” she adds.
