Mahindra’s new commuter spotted again

Mahindra’s new small-capacity motorcycle was once again spotted testing in Maharashtra. Rumoured to be powered by a 155cc mill, this barebones commuter is expected to be launched by the end of this year.

The underpinnings of this new commuter do not resemble any of the existing ones in Mahindra’s line-up, indicating that it is based on a completely new platform. This new commuter motorcycle has taken a different approach than the Centuro and Pantero, with its barebones design and minimal equipment. It gets spoke wheels, drum brakes and a simple fully analogue instrument console, with minimum attention towards styling.

After getting off to a good start with the Mojo, Mahindra now seems to have turned its focus towards the commuter motorcycle segment. While the Mojo is more of a brand image builder, this new commuter will be a mass market motorcycle to help the company generate volumes. Mahindra has so far been unsuccessful in making a dent in the commuter motorcycle segment. Mahindra has so far been tight-lipped about this motorcycle, though we can expect more details to be revealed as this prototype nears production.
