The int 650 is an amazing bike and i love every minute of riding it. After my experience of owning a himalayan (bs iii first edition) which was a lemon. I promised myself that i am never ever going with an Indian manufacturer of bikes and even cars however rosy it may look on the outside. This changed (not for cars though) the moment i test-drove an interceptor for the fun of it. The color variant (ravishing red) i wanted was available off-the-shelf and didn't think twice before i bought one. My daily drive to the office and back totaling approximately 70kms was amazing and i simply didn't want to get off the bike at the end of the ride. In fact, traveling to the office became a pleasure for me because i could drive this amazing bike. The looks are top notch and the performance from day one was excellent. The build quality is excellent and the company really spent time reviewing and testing before commercial production. There are no worries of nuts and bolts falling off due to vibrations. Heating was a challenge till the first service post which it reduced or maybe i got used to it. But then this is a 650cc bike some heating will be there. At 6'0 feet and 110kg this bike was perfectly suited for me as the added weight gave more stability at high speeds. Excellent low-end torque means you can pull out of traffic with ease. The engine is extremely refined and the clutch is butter smooth to shift. The bike wants you to push it and it will take it. Heavy as it is at 202 kgs it's not easy to maneuver in traffic but on the highways, it comes into its own and you will feel you are driving a car. Unless you look at the speedo and get that wind blast you will not know the speed which can easily cross 100 kms. I have had no problems with service and i diligently get it serviced every 5 - 6000 kms though the company says 10,000 kms is enough. Maintenance of the sprocket and chain every 500 - 600 kms is a must for long life. The sweet spot is the exhaust. Post crossing around 3500 - 4000 kms the exhaust developed a grunt that is music to my ears and have not needed to replace it with aftermarket ones. The rearview mirrors are usable even at speeds above 100 kms as there are zero vibrations from the engine. Now the cons: the stock seat is one big issue and i got it replaced with an aftermarket one even before the first service. Stock headlights are decent but I got it replaced with after-market led headlights and blinkers, and installed hazard lights too. Stock pirelli (bs iii version) was good and comfortable but not too many after-market options are available for 18" inchers. I have found the brakes to be decent and abs works too but not enough bite. Would have been good if it was a switchable abs but then there are workarounds. Shocks are on the firmer side and bad roads will give you a jarring ride but not enough to impact your back. Being heavy, the bike is not conducive for short rides to your neighborhood stores (wasn't meant for it anyways !). Pillion riders especially the taller ones will keep cribbing as it is really uncomfortable riding posture. Make sure pillion riders keep their feet on the footpegs only as the exhaust is only an inch or so below and its extremely hot and can easily scorch their feet or leg. Removing is easy but refitting the rear tyre is not that simple in case of a puncture. Alloy wheels would have been good but i guess given the weight and riding mechanics spokes are better suited for this bike.
The bike is extremely stable and if your riding posture is right pothole or not - you will land on your feet (wheels ) every time. There are hundreds of after-market accessories for the 650 twins that depending on your tastes you can modify/upgrade.
Those planning on buying the interceptor need not think twice. This bike will give you an experience you will not regret. Btw ....I have been riding bikes for 35+ years now starting with the yezdi (the original one).

Riding High on the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650
I have been cruising the roads on my Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 for a good few months now and it has been a thrilling journey! With a robust 648cc parallel twin engine, it effortlessly delivers about 47 horsepower and 52 Nm of torque makes every ride smooth and powerful. The 6 speed gearbox with its slip assist clutch allows for seamless gear transitions, enhancing the ride experience. What really stands out is its retro charm combined with modern performance. The dual cradle frame design is not only sturdy but also ensures stable handling at high speeds.

First service down in about 3 hours, after cooling down the bike for about an hour. Oil change done, oil filter too and the torqued every nut/ bolt the mechanic could see or reach. Average in city improved by 1. From 23kmpl to 24. So much for that. Highway riding remains restricted to Ghatkopar-Thane- what joy that is. So apart from the cost of the service - INR 2600, there doesn't seem to be any difference in the running of the bike. It's still smooth. The next oil change will be at 5000, followed by 10,000 and the. Direct 20,000km.

Never intended to get one due to the long long waiting period, but when I saw a new showroom opening, and they had a stock of I-650s, I just couldn't resist! 7 days, and the charming chrome-coloured Interceptor Mark 2 is HOME!!! One short push on the button, a little twist in the throttle and I get transported to a different dimension of motorcycling. The riding stance, the response from the engine, the vintage looks, and the sweet growl of the panther make eyeballs turn. The pickup is easy, smooth and equivalent to litre-class motorcycles. At the same time intimidating for people who just graduated from a smaller-engine motorcycle. RE has done a brilliant job in looking into all the aspects of creating a perfect bike... Errr, perfect beast.
No beast can be tamed easily, and they need a lot of care. Never cold start the bike, I repeat, NEVER COLD START THE BIKE! A little warm-up is very important for optimal performance. Cleaning the chains every week is important to maintain a good machine life. The service centres are nice, and they complete service on time if a prior appointment is taken.
Pros: Looks, engine, power, thrill, feel-good factor, I can go on and on.
Cons: A little vibration and heat don't bother, do they?

My age is 70 years and it's not possible to ride anymore. The service cost is very low, the style is excellent, it/s a genuine superbike for the younger generation. The bike is an eye-catcher and the rider is noticed wherever you take it. I still love it but because of my age, I have sold it. But bear in mind, it's not a 'distress sale.

  • 2 merits to buy and 2 demerits to think for buying or not

    Ravi

I got a chance to ride this bike for 200-300 km. I have covered a distance of approx. 250km from rajkot to ahmedabad. Then I have also ridden the bike on rough roads and kachha road.
    ->riding experience:
if I talk about the riding experience, I was very confident to ride 650cc bike after riding this. It offers to good control over the bike. The control system is awesome. It covers the acceleration of 0-80 km in just 5-6 sec max. The pickup of this bike is amazing and the braking system is awesome. The is not much vibration in the bike. The engine is very refined. The exhaust sound is quite amazing.
    Mileage:
I have also tested the mileage of the interceptor650, it gives the max mileage of about 28kmpl at highway and 24-26 kmpl in the city.
    Service:
As there is no cover for the chain, regular cleaning is required.
    Cons:
    1. The seat is quite narrow, so it is not very comfortable for long rides.
    2. The rear footrest is a little bit higher than the rider's footrest, so for taller people, it is uncomfortable to sit.

I got a chance to ride this bike for 200-300 km. I have covered a distance of approx. 250km from rajkot to ahmedabad. Then I have also ridden the bike on rough roads and kachha road.
    ->riding experience:
if I talk about the riding experience, I was very confident to ride 650cc bike after riding this.

• Relaxed Twins will let you sail in triple digits with ease.

    1. The buying experience has been smooth.
    2. Best bike with a very smooth engine, the bike stays relaxed till 130 KMPH.
    3. Retro Classic Modern look blends very well with the bike.
    4. Maintenance cost is on the higher side due to break shoe price.
    5. Pros: The relaxed parallel twin engine does not scream like singles. The nimble, agile.
Cons: I did not find any. The foot peg position was annoying in traffic gotten used to the springy action now.

    Tips for other riders

Stop unnecessary breaking in the city instead, use declaration while hopping from 1 traffic signal to another. That way you can prevent the wear and tear of break shoes.

  • Quality issue

    Manjunath Reddy

Worst quality. chassis broke within 6 months.
service center guys refuse to replace the chassis as it has a saddle. how come a touring bike can go for rides without a saddle?
And the company doesn’t have that.
    Next comes the battery issues.
The battery is not getting charged.
Replaced with a new one and the very next day it was dead again.
    Hats off to RE service
They even don’t know what the problem is.

Excellent Experience during riding, feel King when on the road. Value for Money and Royal Enfield's name is enough. Nothing to say. When I purchased the bike I thought it was a very heavy bike but after riding it felt smooth on the road and had no vibration like a 650 cc bike. It's design is Good.

    ->riding experience:
if I talk about the riding experience, I was very confident to ride 650cc bike after riding this.
