Mahindra Mojo Long Term Review 1

The Mahindra Mojo has mostly got positive reviews from the Media fraternity in India. So I am quite excited to have been handed over the keys to this Mahindra bike for three months. On first impression, it might not be pretty but it certainly stands out from the crowd. The dominating front fairing with its twin headlamp unit looks menacing. Above that are LED daytime running lamps which add to its bling factor. Although it is a single cylinder bike, the massive cowls beside the radiator makes the engine look bigger. The look-at-me design is completed by the impressive frame which is finished in gold, twin tail pipes, and the massive Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres.

Just before writing I took the Mojo for a brief 15km ride to my office and I came away quite impressed. The 295cc engine feels smooth right to its 9500rpm redline and it has enough oomph to keep the keen rider interested. The midrange felt strong and combined with the sorted ride and comfortable upright riding position I expect my daily commutes to be stress-free. Of course, it’s not all hunky-dory, and the Mojo has its shortfalls. While taking it out of my tight parking, the Mojo at 165kg felt unnecessarily heavy and its large turning circle just makes matters worse. Also the throttle response under 3000rpm is jerky especially in a higher gear, which forces you to constantly downshift every time you slow down.

But this is just my first impression and despite the flaws, I am craving to get some highway miles under my belt on the Mojo which according to Mahindra is what this bike is built for. In the coming months I will keep you updated on this homegrown motorcycle as I explore more of its capabilities in different riding environments.
