Yamaha has slashed prices of the two completely built units (CBU) motorcycles in its range. The price cut for the MT-09 and the YZF-R1 is in the range of 12 per cent of the original sticker price.
With the price cut, the MT-09 will now set you back by Rs 9.5 lakhs while the YZF-R1 retails at Rs 18.16 lakhs (both ex-showroom). This move comes on the heels of the government slashing the custom duties on motorcycles imported as CBUs from 75 per cent to 50 per cent. Like other manufacturers, Yamaha is passing on the benefits directly to the customer.
The YZF-R1, which used to retail at Rs 20.73 lakhs before, has received a price cut of Rs 2.57 lakhs. The company’s flagship model, the R1 is the most advanced Yamaha motorcycle that you can buy in India. It is powered by an inline-four CP4 engine which delivers 200bhp and 112Nm of torque. Keeping the power on leash is traction control, slide control, launch control, anti-wheelie control and ABS.
The MT-09 on the other hand, is a middleweight plus streetfighter. It is powered by a three-cylinder engine CP3 that generates 114bhp and 87Nm of torque. The price for the MT-09 has dropped by Rs 1.3 lakhs, from Rs 10.88 lakhs to 9.5 lakhs.
