Mahindra two-wheeler sales fall by 37 per cent

Mahindra two-wheeler's overall sales in June 2015 saw a significant dip of 37 per cent, as compared to the same period in 2014. The company moved 9,704 two-wheelers in the last month, against the 15,463 units it had managed to sell in June 2014.

The Mumbai-based two-wheeler manufacturer’s domestic sales in June 2015 numbers stand at 8,697 units, 39.5 per cent less than the 14,389 two-wheelers it sold in June 2014. With the company shipping off 1,007 two-wheelers to its other global markets against the 1,074 units in June 2014, export numbers also registered an insignificant 6.3 per cent drop.

Despite the launch of its new 110cc scooter, the Gusto, sales of Mahindra’s two-wheeler division have been falling fallen drastically over the past few months. Though the scooter segment in the Indian two-wheeler industry is growing rapidly, the same cannot be said about Mahindra’s scooter line-up. With just two motorcycles, both 100cc commuters, and five scooters in its line-up, Mahindra has a very limited presence in the Indian two-wheeler market, and the lack of an image building frontrunner seems to have hit it hard. The company does plan to invest over the next few months to expand its market share, though it remains to be seen how effective these measures are going to be.
