Kawasaki working on regenerative braking

There are a number of people in this world that want motorcycles to be just as high-tech as cars. And apparently some of these people work at Kawasaki. We say this, because the next phase of the Japanese company’s electric-engine programme is a complex braking regeneration electrical system that it has just patented.

There has always been talk of the idea of using the energy derived from the brakes to help power the engine. However, this is the first time it has been patented and comes with detailed diagrams that reveal a lot of the technology involved. The picture also revealed the electric motor and what looks to be more than one battery in place of the engine of the bike.

The patent image of the speedometer also shows the regeneration gauge on the electronic dash. Interestingly, the motorcycle also appears to have a thumb brake which will be linked to the regeneration system. There are also plus and minus buttons on the handlebar which will likely be to dial in how much power one wants to extract from the electric motor which will power the electric bike.

It will be interesting to see how and when Kawasaki use this technology. Additionally, the brand now has an upper hand and could even use it on future electric sports bikes. Stay tuned to Bikewale for more updates on the developments of this tech and more.
