Indian consumers not a big fan on Automatic Headlamp On (AHO) feature

Hero MotoCorp launched the Splendor 110 iSmart with the Automatic Headlamp On (AHO) feature a couple of weeks ago. This was done much before the regulation kicks in from April 2017.

This feature has been present in European motorcycles for a while now, thanks to legislation. Vehicles with AHO are more visible to car drivers, thus making the motorcycles less prone to accidents. However, some of the Indian consumers aren’t happy with the Automatic Headlamp On (AHO) feature.

We spoke to a couple of Hero MotoCorp dealers who informed us that the Splendor 110 iSmart buyers are not willing to accept the auto headlamp on feature. Most of the consumers wanted to disconnect this feature from their bikes citing too much hand gestures from the pedestrians. There’s also a perception that if the headlamp is on for a long time, the battery will drain out. However, that’s not the case with the Splendor as the headlamp runs on an AC circuit, due to which the battery life won’t be affected.

The Hero dealers are educating buyers through a newspaper cut-out, which explains this upcoming regulation from the government. It will be interesting to see how the other manufacturers market this feature once they equip all their products with it.
