2019 Triumph Street Twin and Street Scrambler to be launched in India on 14 February

- Sport minor cosmetic changes.

- Get retuned engine and better braking hardware.

- Likely to be priced at a premium of Rs 20,000-30,000 over the current models.

Triumph Motorcycles India is scheduled to launch the 2019 iterations of the Street Twin and Street Scrambler on 14 February.

Both bikes are based on the same platform and retain the styling of their respective outgoing models. The Street Twin is a modern-classic motorcycle with blacked-out components that add to the appeal. On the other hand, the Street Scrambler, like its name suggests is a scrambler-styled bike; it gets spoke wheels and high-set, twin exhausts.

However, they get minor cosmetic changes like a redesigned seat, instrument cluster and side panels. The bikes also sport brushed aluminium brackets that hold on to the conventional headlamp, a new matte black colour on the Street Twin and new graphics on the Street Scrambler.

The most substantial changes on the bikes are mechanical. Both motorcycles use an overhauled version of the 900cc, parallel-twin motor that puts out 10bhp more, taking the output to 64bhp. Meanwhile, the torque figures remain the same at 80Nm. This engine uses a magnesium cam cover and lighter balance and crank shafts to reduce weight.

Braking hardware on both motorcycles now consists of four-pot Brembo calipers at the front along with a 310mm disc brake while the rear continues with a 255mm disc held on by a Nissin two-pot caliper. They now ride on upgraded 41mm cartridge forks that offer 120mm of travel. Triumph has also updated the electronic package with two ride modes; Road and Rain and an optional tyre pressure monitoring system apart from the ABS and traction control system from the previous model.

The updated Triumph Street Twin is likely to cost a premium of Rs 20,000-30,000 over the outgoing model that retails at Rs 7.83 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). It will compete against the Ducati Scrambler Icon here. On the other hand, we can also expect a similar hike in price for the Street Scrambler which is currently priced at Rs 8.90 lakhs. The bike goes head on against the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled.
