About Hero Impulse 250
Hero Impulse was the first motorcycle that was launched when the Delhi-based manufacturer went solo and was rechristened Hero MotoCorp. The Impulse initially did excite the enthusiasts by opening up a whole new segment and was the most affordable transroader (on-road-off-road motorcycle) in the Indian market.
While the Impulse is a competent off-roading motorcycle, it failed to capture the Indian customers’ imagination. According to rumours, Hero is planning to introduce the Impulse with a more powerful and potent 250cc engine. As Hero MotoCorp isn’t allowed to make alterations to either the chassis or the 150cc engine as a part of its agreement with Honda, the Impulse 250 could be a completely new motorcycle, co-developed with its partner, Eric Buell Racing.
The Impulse 250 might share the powertrain with the HX250R. The four-stroke single cylinder liquid-cooled 249cc engine churns out 31bhp and peak torque of 26Nm, though it might be retuned to suit the purpose of an adventure motorcycle. And while the HX250R will get a six-speed transmission, the Impulse 250 might have to make do with a five-speed gearbox. To handle all the extra power, Hero might also have to develop new front and rear suspension as well as equip the bike with bigger brakes.
The lack of power was a major reason why the Impulse failed to draw the attention of enthusiasts, but the 250cc engine should help solve this issue. Expected to be launched in mid-2015, the Impulse 250 might be priced in the Rs 1.2 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh bracket.
