Hero Glamour 125 Summary

The Hero Glamour is the Gurgaon-based two-wheeler major’s mid-sized commuter fighter. It follows the same principle as the 100cc commuter motorcycles but adds more value in the form of increased feature list and contemporary styling.

The Hero Glamour’s styling tweaks include a large headlight cowl which includes a front cover for the instrument console, multi coloured body graphics, body coloured rear-view mirrors and a two-tone front mud guard. Like the smaller bikes the instrument console is very basic in nature and contains an analogue speedometer, fuel gauge and a single trip meter. It is offered in five colour combinations with black being the base shade for blue, red, brown, yellow. There is also a full red and full brown colour scheme.

The Glamour is powered by a 125cc unit that produces 8bhp and 10Nm of torque. It is offered in two variants-drum brake and disc brake of the latter has been priced Rs 3,000 more. The engine sends power via a chain drive and a four-speed sequential gearbox.

It competes with the Discover 125, Honda CB Shine and the Suzuki Sling Shot Plus. The Glamour is priced at Rs 56,172 (ex-showroom,Delhi)

Introduction

2017 Hero Glamour 125

Owners club. Nestled deep inside farm and forest land about an hour and a half away from Buenos Aires, it is a sensational place. As the name suggests, it's a sort of owner only thing with 'owned' bits are mostly classic cars. But the highlight of the place is a small but challenging track it houses. We, however, haven't come here for the classic cars. We are here for something, which is - pardon the oxymoron, less glamorous.

Meet the new for 2017 Hero Glamour 125.

What's new?

Everything compared to the current Glamour. The styling is completely different. New panels, smarter decals, and a stance which makes it look bigger than the current bike. It's better looking too. More grown up and attractive if you will; like Shilpa Shetty in her recent yoga videos compared to her Baazigar days. It gets LED tail lamps, unique looking wheels and part-digital-part-analog instrumentation, all of which are new additions.

The chassis is new too. While the current bike uses a dual cradle frame to hold the sloper engine, the new Glamour 125 gets a single downtube, but one that continues to cradle the engine than use it as a stressed member. The swingarm is shorter on the new bike and though the suspension components are similar to the current bike, these are setup differently on the new Glamour to take advantage of its more neutral weight distribution front to back. The specs for the tyres and brakes meanwhile, remain unchanged.

The engine is all new as well. It might displace nearly the same capacity as the current Glamour, but the new engine is now vertically oriented. It also makes significantly more power (11.4bhp against 8.9bhp) and a little more torque (11Nm compared to 10.3Nm). Furthermore, it is offered with both carburation and fuel injection like the current bike. The difference between the carb and FI versions on paper is solely limited to performance. Even though these have the exact same outputs, Hero claims the FI is both quicker and more fuel efficient.

Carb vs Fi

Dig deeper and the degree of separation grows. For starters, only the carb version gets i3S tech while the average fuel economy display is exclusive to the FI version. Also, while the FI version gets a rev limiter which cuts in at 9,500rpm, the carb has none. So, your cue to upshift is when the power begins to plateau on the latter. Riding the bikes back-to-back also reveals a crisper throttle response (courtesy a quicker throttle) on the carburated Glamour and better mid-range poke. The FI Glamour on the other hand is more refined and less vibey.

The ride feel

2017 Hero Glamour 125

Now, we might not be at the Owners Club for the classic cars, but we are certainly here for that circuit. Not the ideal place to test out a commuter we agree, not with its large cushy seat, its tall handlebar, and rider footpegs which are neutrally positioned instead of being rearset. Cornering clearance then might be an issue.

And it is, but not as much as we were expecting. In fact, the new Glamour 125 performed way above our expectations on the track. The new weight bias makes it great at turn in and to get it upright at corner exists. It has light steering, and the MRF tyres our test bikes were running - though narrow - offered plenty of grip in the dry. The only limiting factor then were the grounding footpeg feelers. These seem to scrape the tarmac a lot sooner than the bike's handling capabilities.

2017 Hero Glamour 125

But, that's not the point of the Glamour, now is it. So, here's what we deduced from our time on the track. Given its chuckable nature, the new Glamour should be effortless to tackle city traffic with. The muted vibrations, the comfy seat, and the upright seating which never got uncomfortable or tiring even after an hour of riding on the track, should make it wonderful to spend long commuting hours in. The brakes meanwhile have good bite and decent progression. Add to it the light clutch and throttle action, and new-age commuters should feel right at home on this one.

The new Hero Glamour 125 will be in showrooms in March. And we expect it to be priced similar to the current bike, give and take a few thousands; it will replace the existing bike after all. As first impressions go, the new Glamour 125 comes across as a sweet and easy to ride bike that should fit its purpose of easy, comfy and efficient commuting to the tee. Our final verdict however will have to wait till we ride it in India, on our roads.

Very bad bike compared to bs3 bike. Too many problems.
      1. Back pain when long drives up to 50 km
      2. Gear problem
      3. Speed max 60 then it vibrates.
      4. Low light at night
      5. More problems that I cannot tell here.
      6. Low mileage up to 45 km.
      7. No stand light
      8. Don't buy this bike. Go to honda 125 cc better than this
Only 1 con low servicing cost and mileage up to 45 km.

There's differences in prices (on road) shown by you. The bike dealer charges more money than prices shown by you.
Moreover gear of glamour is worst. If I ride at gear 4 and suddenly have to stop and again go then problem arises. After all due to greed of dealers one day the manufacturing company may be in peril.

      Hero Glamour 125 review

      Prateek Bhatia

The moment i went out of the show room this vehicle started giving troubles to me. With in 1 to 1.5 kms from the showroom it stopped in the middle of the road. And then it refused to start. 5-6 times i tried to start it and then it finally started. Its self start was struggling. After one or two attempts at start the whole Lcd panel shut and struggled while starting as if it was some old or discharged battery. But then as i trusted your product i thought that may be your dealer never charged the battery before delivering it and just gave the bike like this. I thought that what can go wrong in a new product of such a branded company and gave it a pass. That was the worst mistake i made. In today's world as they say in hindi “ bharosa to apne baap pe bhi nahin karna chahiye”.
Trusting the company and the brand i just made it stand in my parking for the next 3-4 days unused with just 2 km on the trip meter. I had my brother visiting from abroad and so i was busy in a lot of other things. After few days i again took it to petrol pump and filled in 300 rs fuel just to check the mileage. To my great surprise the fuel meter still was showing empty blinking with the tank almost half full. One and half litre the dealer claimed they filled { if it was not a lie}. Even if it was a lie i just now filled it with three liters so it should show at least three bars. But it showed empty blinking all the time.
Then i moved towards my house and i asked my mother to take a ride with me. As soon as i asked my mother to sit on the bike. The bike refused to start. Again it was after 6-8 attempts it started. It started all the time but with in fraction of a second stopped { not two three seconds after but with in one second}. Again the same lcd panel going off and the self struggling as if some old battery in there. Anyways we some how managed to start a ride only for a km or so when i found that the tyre was bubbling. Before i could stop a passerby rider alerted me that the tyres are having no air pressure. I quickly stopped at the nearby puncture shop and that guy told me that the air pressure was 20 at the back and similar at the front and which is very low. So the agency ppl not even inflated the tyres properly before handing over the bike.
Somehow we finished the ride. Here i must add a positive that the ride after that was smooth. I tried to drive at high speed also just to check . The bike was very stable and was very responsive. It was a good experience.
But then after i came back. And then after some time had to go some where and tried to start the bike again. The old problem of not starting returned. The next day i again tried to go for a drive and then when i stopped at a railway crossing and then tried to start again it just starts and stops with in a fraction of a second. And this time because of hooting from people at the backside who were also stuck in the jam i asked my mother to get off the bike so that i can take it to the side and then all of a sudden it started and i asked her again to climb on to the bike very fast as people were hooting. And in this exercise she got hurt very badly at an old fracture already there in her legs and since then became bed ridden.
I took the bike to the service centre and they are not able to repair it. They re formatted the bike and then asked me to not give the vehicle keys to some one else and don’t start it. They said that the mechanic will start it and check as now its reformatted digitally. But before the mechanic who was busy with some other bike could lay his hands on my bike some other senior person asked me for the bike keys and took away the bike. When the mechanic asked the bike from me i had no clue where it was. I was told that its upside at the showroom. When i went there i was told that the bike doesn't needs repair and had a flashing problem which has been corrected after the format.
I again tried the bike but the problem persisted. Then they asked a mechanic to ride with me. And then i showed him the problem. He said not you are driving wrong. Then i handed over the bike to him and asked him to drive. And then the same thing happened with him also. After which he said that there is a oxygen and low rpm problem. This all in a new bike. Some how some other person then did what behind my back i don’t know but for the time being then the bike ran smoothly for 10-15 kms under test drive.
I returned and parked the vehicle again. After two three days again when i took the bike out with only 44 kms done { most of which during test } after running smoothly for 5-6 kms again the problem reappeared.
And there is a faulty fuel meter as well. These people are unable to repair the bike. All sorts of tick tick voice is coming out of the bike even if i drive it for 100 meter. This sound is coming from exhaust because of engine heating up. I said how can the engine heat up in just 100-200 meters and tick tick voice starts coming. They say in bs6 this thing happens. When i ask about the other churr churr noise which has recently started coming some times they say its because of new engine.
When i ask about the faulty meter they say again that in bs6 and electronic meter this happens. When i ask about the start stop problem they say that you keep driving right now the bike is new and after some time that will go away . We will see it in the first service. How can i drive this faulty bike which stops every where and is not reliable.
I haven't even been given the registration certificate of the bike even after 20 days. They say that the paper on which registration certificate is printed is in short supply at the rto.
They have an flimsy excuse for anything and everything. Some times i feel that the problem is not with the bike but with this people. They have knowingly done some mischief for the bike to behave like this. I don’t know them personally and have paid 2700 extra to them which they cant explain. I paid 90000 for this bike and their total is coming for 87300 only.
The bike is standing in my house brand new and haven't even done 100km in total and this is the condition of your dealer rs auto.
I would request you to replace this bike as its brand new and haven't even done 100 kms and if this is the state of affairs with the new thing i don’t want to imagine what it will be when it gets a bit old. Electronics and mechanical things if working well at the start keep working well through out . But if they are problematic at the initial stage then they keep on churning new problems every now and then. I think there is a manufacturing defect in this bike or there is some one playing mischief knowingly. Either ways i as a customer is at a compete loss.

Bike driving is very comfortable with glamour. I love this bike's features and looks. The average of my bike is good. Service and spare availability very much in India in any location. The price of spare parts is very low. Breaks are very good and the gear is too tight but not disturbing. It has chain less meter Console.
