Yamaha YZF R9 Summary
Yamaha has aggressive plans for India and it is expected to expand its portfolio in the premium performance segment in the country. The company recently showcased several premium motorcycles at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025 and among them was the Yamaha YZF R9.
The YZF-R9 is a middleweight supersport motorcycle from Yamaha that rivals the Ducati Panigale V2 and the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R in the international market. The R9 shares its underpinnings and mechanicals with the Yamaha MT-09. Looks-wise, it sports the familiar R-series design language with a centre-mounted LED projector headlamp, flanked by LED DRLs. It features a sporty fascia, integrated winglets, and a petite tail section. Internationally, the bike is available in three colours –Team Yamaha Blue, Matte Raven Black, and Intensity White/Redline.
Mechanically, the Yamaha YZF-R9 is powered by an 890cc, inline-three-cylinder, CP3 engine, linked to a six-speed gearbox. This liquid-cooled motor produces 117.3bhp at 10,000rpm and a peak torque of 93Nm at 7,000rpm. Meanwhile, the suspension setup includes fully adjustable KYB forks up front and a monoshock with preload and rebound adjustability.
The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S22F tyres. The braking hardware includes twin 320mm disc brakes at the front with Brembo Stylema callipers and a 220mm single rotor at the back. Feature-wise, Yamaha has equipped the R9 with IMU-based electronic systems such as cornering traction control, cornering ABS, wheelie control, and more. It also gets multiple ride modes.

JayYamaha might have compromised the performance a bit with R9. The trade-off is to get more mileage. In the real world, it doesn’t matter much. Looks are exceptional, especially the red/white one. Jubaraj DasAs everyone saying R9 is the successor of R6. Of course, it's a bike with higher specs , technology and performance but it will never be the R6 even though the R9 is higher in every aspect. The performance is phenomenal the torque it produces, the power it gives is outstanding; Absolute beast I would say. If you are looking for a sports bike that you can ride on both street and track them you surely have to sacrifice comfort. I won't say it's too uncomfortable to ride but for street rides it can be a little pain in the back as it has quite an aggressive riding posture. I guess many people can handle it. Few people are saying that it's priced a bit high, but I think a Middle-Wight Bike with 890cc CP3 liquid cooled engine and with those amazing specs it's a steal. I do have to say the styling is a bit odd the way the iconic stinger tail looks now and the way the winglets is attached to it is a little too flashy. They could have worked on the design of they have just copied the R1 design a little but that's okay it looks quite good. Yamaha India needs to take this decision immediately or if they didn't, Kawasaki and other brands will take over India is rich here are people who want these bikes.
