  • King of the 150cc Segment - Yamaha R15

    People Call Me Ash

I bought a used R15 V2 to learn riding a sports bike and to improve my riding skills. According to me, R15 is an excellent bike for beginners. The bike os, not the smoothest one. It has a considerable amount of vibrations. It is mainly because it is a single cylinder and a high compression engine. Gear shifting is very smooth and precise. Overall there are no reliability issues since it is a YAMAHA. I learnt a lot of stuff on this bike like cornering, rev-matching, engine braking, counter-steering and so on.
I have seen people complain about the riding posture. It is not very aggressive. It all depends on your fitness level. I have done many 1000kms long trip. And I have covered close to 550kms on a single day. Of course, you will feel tired but it is not that uncomfortable.
As far as looks are concerned there are no haters for this design. The performance is the best in class. No other 150 cc bike can compete with the R15.
Maintainance cost is a bit high. It will cost you close to 2k per service. And I am not very satisfied with Yamaha's servicing.
P.S I have covered close to 40k kms in my bike.
    Pros:
Powerful engine for city commutes and weekend rides.
Very Stable at speeds above 130kmph.
Cruising speed of 120kmph is great considering a 150cc engine.
Maintainance cost is pretty decent and easy on the pocket.
Great looks. Definitely a head turner.
    An affordable everyday supersport.
    Cons:
    Lack of ABS.
Poor Headlights despite having twin headlamps.
    Vibrations near the redline.
The MRF tyres aren't that great. Michelin Radial tyres would be a better option.

I started to use r15 for my daily purpose then i also started to take to long drives and at the end i also found that r15 can also used for off-road . Now i almost done 58,000 km and i currently own her for 4+ yrs...

If you own an r15 v2 you should be proud that you are having a r series bike of yamaha

It is an aggressive sports bike which comes within your budget .. People say the the service cost of yamaha is damn high . But i don't agree with it . Since i know how to keep my bike maintained by changing engine oil , air filter , chain lube etc,.. I don't want to invest much on service ... More over am happy that am getting 44 kmpl on highway ... Love yamaha .. :-)

  • A near perfect sports bike!!

    Manoj Prabhakar

1.It was on first week of march 2016, the showroom which i contacted early invited me to see the bike which had the new coloring(sparky green). I confirmed the order, mine was on the second lot. The service manager was a lot helpful in updating me with the status of bikes arrival. They kept the showroom open for a hour on Sunday for completing the payment and took care of all the documentation and the keys was handed over to me on march 30 2016.

    2. It was not a blast but was so different to ride. I had never ridden a r15 before. It was a lot like normal bike, there was not much difference in speeds below 4k rpm, but the brakes felt very good and the bike felt rock solid stable. The next day, i was on a 100 kms ride.As i did not had a very good riding experience, i mistakenly applied brake a lot and locked the rear brake, i locked the wheel due to sudden downshift! no drama, the bike forgave all the mistakes and maintained the front very stable.

    3. Looks: who don't like the mini r6!! when i bought the bike, mine was the second bike in the city with the new color scheme, it turned a lot of heads. Even now out of 10, 5 people will look at it for an extra 2-3 seconds!

Performance: the roads are not the perfect place to exploit an r15 to 100%. However i took it for some 2-3 high speed runs, it managed to do a gps speed of 136kmph, the odo was showing 147kmph. The bike was stable even at that speed ,thanks to the litre class derived chassis. These are from my observations.

" in right hands the r15 will prove its worth"

    4. The service cost is on higher side for the category. Free service expenses was nearly rs.1000 and paid service will set you around rs.2500. The bike does not need to be checked every now and then. It has a bullet proof reliable engine. The front brake pads are the only parts that i have changed so far. The bike is 13500 kms old, yet on a regular wash and polish, it will look brand new!

    5. Pros:

    1.Handling

    2.Linear power delivery

    3.Looks

4.The exhaust after 7000 rpm and the howling intake sound at 3rd and 4th gear in between 4-6k rpm.

    5.Braking

    6.Grip level

    Cons:

    1.Pain in wrist and palm.

2.Not at all easy to clean.

3.Not so firm rear indicator mountings.

4.Head lights are not useful after 100 kmph (need led or projectors).

    5.Firmer suspension.

6.Need to work on gear box for sudden overtakes.

7.Dead battery is a night mare.

    8. Two hours is the time of comfort in saddle on a ride, anything after that will need some rest.

9.Pillion can sit for some 45 mins without any trouble, anything over 1 hour will be uncomfortable. With two hours you can feel the pain in the lower half.

    10. Buzzing sound on gear lever at 5k rpm.

    11. No space to store anything. I use mirror to hang the plastic bag.

    12. Bike's swing arm, chain and brake caliper loves to become dirty!

I love the bike a lot even it had all sorts of niggles. Every one must respect the bike for what it is!!

  • Indian road ka baap.. R15

I had bought r15 sparky green 1 yr ago..

When i had bought it . My first riding experience was awesome.. I felt it as i was riding a sport bike.. Above 500cc.. .

.. Yamaha r15 was the starting range of r series..

It has stylish look and as well as also sporty look.. It looks so cool.. and attractive.. .

Pick up was also so good. It has a good torque and raising power.. .

When i ride it in highways my happiness has no bounds.. .

Everything in it was so good..

It gives an average mileage of 40 km/lit.

.. For teenagers it is the best bike in its price range available in Indian market ...

But i won't suggest to the people above 40 years.. I will give it 99%rating.. The delta box frame was also awesome and looks cool....

  • Rock hard reliable bike with stupendous performance

    Vishal Singh

Hey fellow riders Here i am to make a review on a bike ..Which needs no introduction , i am talking about yamaha yzf r15 .This bike is a legend in itself it was the first 150 cc segment bike which bring the suprsport dna in Indian market , before this bike there were pulsars and apaches but we all know they didn't stand anywhere in front of this yamaha revolution, back those days .Now the market is grown, competition becomes tougher every motorcycle company is in a race to make there masterpiece in every segment but the most occupied segment in India is 150cc .We got sweet naked bikes in 150 cc like fzs, cb hornet , gixxer and all and faired one's like cbr honda 150r ,r15 off-course and so on..So what is want to mention is this 150 cc segment is amazing in its variety of bikes wearer getting in India. My point of making this whole discussion is r15 was launched back in 2008 and till now in 2018 it's engine remains same with minor uplifts and striking sticker art work on the body. After nearly 10 years it is a clear winner in 150 cc segment ..It's reliable it's rev happy engine ..It's broad power band , its power delivery everything is amazing on this bike , On papers it's not that striking motorcycle but on the roads ..It is a smashing motorcycle ..Revving upto 12000 rpm..Still a relaxed engine ..I mean where do you get this type of performance in a 150 cc bike ..I owned this bike for more than 7 years ..I've done touring ,track ride , daily commutes everything i can say ..And this is a perfect sweet bike who wants to face every thing with a smile on its face .Buying experience It was good ..No complaints at all service centre available nearly everywhere.Riding experience Riding experience was phenomenal , perfect riding posture , little bit of aggressive but what could u expect from a sports bike , perfect suspension setup ,amazing brakes those nissin callipers with bybre brakes works amazing on this bike .Looks and performance Looks phenomenal at-least on this price point , rev happy engine , u rev this engine and this sweet little 150cc bastard will make you go as are riding on a track , reliability of this engine is rock solid ..Made up from the material of captain america's shield metal vibranium. Servicing and maintenance Servicing and maintenance costs are not that high ..But you have to take care of this bike because of advance technology embedded in this bike you have to listen out your pocket sometimes . pros - superb engine , rev happy engine , nimble , amazing handling on curves , perfect suspension setup and obviously looks delicious.Cons Seat height for pillion is high , sitting posture aggressiveness .

  • The off-road r15 v2.0

    Rudhra Prasad

    Chandramohan
