Bought the yamaha fz 25 abs model in february 2019. Considering the highly rated reviews on youtube and feedback given by other riders on various blogs about this particular motorcycle, my expectations were high however within 3 months of use i can safely conclude that the yamaha fz 25 is a piece of junk at rupees 1.55 lakh on road price. There was already a clicking sound from the tappets of the engine within 1 month of use. I assure readers of this review that i have been a rider for almost 25 years and well aware of the restrictions of the initial run in period. I have not exceeded the mandated speed limits during the first 1000 kms run-in period. My first experience of yamaha service center was pathetic since the (so claimed) well trained service engineers at the yamaha authorized centers were not even able to open the tappet covers on the engine and instead damaged them during the process by not using the correct t tools. After a third visit to the yamaha authorized service center the yamaha engineers claimed to have fixed the tappet sounds but it still exists. There is also a clunky cluttering sound which starts emanating from the engine once you have reached the 45 - 60 kmph which is completely unexpected from a brand new bike. As per yamaha authorized service engineers this sound of clanking and clicking is a natural sound of the engine and they actually made me drive another very old rickety fz 25 just to prove their point. (honestly this is a nightmare and a pathetic joke). I read articles where people claim a top speed of 130 -- 140 kmph on this bike but i have my doubts since the engine on this bike starts rattling and their are serious vibrations once you reach 80 - 90 kmph. A new problem which started recently was the ignition key getting stuck when you try to withdraw it after locking the bike. Again yamaha engineers said it will be fine if we put some oil in it which did not happen. Since the bike is under warranty i asked them to replace the ignition lock set which they flatly refused. Overall if you can live with clattering and clicking highly irritating sound coming from the engine everyday that you this bike then go ahead and buy this motorcycle. The gear shifts during downshifting are inaccurate, hard and a real pain due to lack of a slipper clutch which is expected from a motorcycle in this price range. The front headlights which are led are an absolute joke and visibility is extremely poor (god knows what yamaha designers were thinking when designing this motorcycle). Good powerful headlights are extremely crucial on a motorcycle for riders overall safety specially at night. The only positive about this motorcycle is the amazing torque which comes at just 6000 rpm and gives you that sheer adrenaline rush which i understand is the top selling point of this motorcycle. A water cooled engine would have been an icing on the cake but as of now you have a air-cooled engine thanks to the cost cutting techniques from yamaha. The dual abs in the new 2019 model does a fantastic job at braking but the rear wheel braking definitely needs more more teeth and aggression. In terms of colour options you just get a very limited choice out of which the 2 matt finish are definitely not appealing and feels very cheap due to the all round matt finish plastic. When buying a new fz 25 abs you just don't get the feel of taking home a spanking shiny brand new bike if you have chosen the matt finish colour option. I think yamaha is trying to cut cost in the paint division too by restricting the colour options. Both the riding position, rider seat and also the pillion seat is broad and very comfortable unlike many other bikes and job well done by yamaha. The instrument cluster is basic and outdated and shows limited options on screen, you need to make multiple clicks on the switch to get additional information. It also does not have a gear indicator on the instrument console and with just 5 gears it may not be too confusing but definitely would have been more easier for riders when driving in heavy traffic. If you look around and understand the term value for money, then there are definitely other better options available in the market. You just need to do some r&d and maybe shell out some more cash but in the long run you won't regret your decision and the riding pleasure will nullify your pain of spending the extra... Ride safe and always wear your helmet..

  • Honest Review After Driving 39000 km In 5 Years

    Rahul Tak

I have been using this bike for the last 5 years. The bike is very good to ride in the city or on highways. The special thing is I never had a back pain issue while riding on this bike. Daily I am riding 50km in city traffic. I am getting 34 mileage per liter. The best part of this bike is the seating position. My height is 6 feet 4 and 4 inches and I never feel discomfort on this bike. I have completed more than 39k km driving and then given this honest review.

Better than royal enfield. Superb engine refinement, mileage around 37-40 kmpl which is amazing. Beats all royal enfield bikes in performance and re is nowhere close to yamaha's engine refinement, however, I know RE does not make performance bikes. And even in 250cc segment fz25 is little underpowered but atleast its better than RE . The most amazing part is engine refinement which is what Yamaha is known for and best mileage which are my top reasons to buy this bike. However this bike has an issue with ground clearance which is manageable if you ride alone but need to be taken care of, with a pillion rider

    1. Budget-friendly
    2. Easy & comfortable to ride
    3. Funky look with decent performance
    4. Low-cost service 7 maintenance
    5. Pros - You can do long & city rides. It's worth its prize on that 250 cc segment and performance is best, brakes are excellent, tire grip to the drifting is best, and services ok but need to improve.
Cons - 5 no gears instead of 6 & little low power as compared to 250cc Very smooth, comfortable yet powerful bike. Just got it a week ago and I really liked it. I am 6 feet tall and I guess it would be comfortable for people of any height. The exhaust sound is really impressive too. People are noticing my bike on the roads.

  • Best performance bike & awesome looks

    Ayush Gawas

First of all my buying experience was very good I boked my bike and I got it within a week. I had not even taken a test ride of the bike. When I went to take delivery it was a very good experience. My first experience of riding this machine was very good the power and torque distribution are very well managed. It gives a raw feeling after riding this bike. I was impressed with the looks of this bike the muscular tank design and the robot-faced headlight. Performance is very good. The best torque of 20nm and power of 20bhp gives the best feeling for riding this machine in cities and highways. It manages mileage of 30-35 in the city & 40 on the highway. It gives a better riding range with the massive 14ltr tank. Servicing cost is higher. I bought my bike in 2018 and I have done 5-6 services till now.
    Pros-
    1 torque and power distribution
    2 riding posture
    3 brakes
    4 handling
    Cons-
    1 better headlight performance
    2 5th gear is missing
    3 poor headlight visibility
    4 needs better mileage

  • Well balanced and fun bike

    Bhaskar Das

I've been riding this bike since the 1st of January 2021 and till now I've ridden more than 50000km. Although the bike looks like an aggressive street, it's quite comfortable in almost all kinds of situations. Be there the usual traffic, highways, rough roads filled with potholes, or even the sharp corners. The bike is easy to maneuver and that gives the rider a big boost in riding confidently. The engine is quite refined(as expected) and doesn't ride like it's only focused on speeding like some bikes that won't move until it's over 4000rpm(if you know what I mean). The bike will try to assist the rider as much as it can in every gear to make it a comfortable ride. Fun machine. But don't mistake it for a slow 250cc. It can overtake almost every bike of its own segment of naked 250 almost in an instant because of its low and mid-range power. That also helps the bike in traffic and corners or riding in hills. Basically, it's a very well-balanced 250cc that can also be great for beginner riders.
Now the cons.. of course, there will be some. The bike has a 5-speed gearbox. Which is good for city rides and provides mileage because of it, but on straight highways, you're going to miss the sixth gear. Although I've reached the top speed of 147kmph on my bike very recently so maybe there is a possibility it can go to 150kmph.
The second con is the smoothness of the gearbox. Not as smooth as someone would expect it to be, you know having the reputation of being a yamaha. Sometimes it gets beyond hard.
The third is the instrument cluster.. it doesn't have a gear indicator and the instrument cluster is the same old traditional fz25 cluster.. although it doesn't bother the experienced rider, if Yamaha is going to focus on pointing the beginner riders to this bike, I think they should bring some mandatory upgrades on the instrument cluster. The bike should look good from the Rider's eyes too.
There are also some other little cons but those will vary depending on the Rider.
My personal Overall experience of the bike is 8 out of 10.
