The fzs rules the roads

I bought yamaha fzs fiery orange in 2013 and now it is 6+ years old. Its a very long period of use and i hope my review will help many of the friends who wish to buy the fzs family. My fzs till now looks good and i have been taking it for long drives of about 550 km's per day. So far i have completed around 6 such kind of long drives and the fzs still looks good in the performance. Initially it comes with a dual cable carburetor and the pick up was very super, but the mileage is about 40 km's per litre. I thought to change it and made a fuel economy carburetor fitted with the help of yamaha service centre and the mileage drastically improves to around 50 km's/litre. On the other hand the pickup is reduced. Guys if you buy this bike, my recommendation is to take yamaha service always. Please don't compromise on this in order to maintain the performance and i also suggest you to use a petrol and engine oil of same brand and grade respectively always.Till now my bike is the best friend of me and without him my day will not complete.I had some repairs like suspension oil seal break and carbon in the piston. I rectified them immediately as soon as noticed. If you are planning for a long drive change your engine oil and better do it a service in the company service centre to avoid any discomfort during your ride. So far i haven't met anything and till now i have no plans to exchange this fzs because it becomes a part of my family. Love this bike.

I bought bike when it was much popular and no other bike was near this one. I was much amazed by its performance . Well balanced, silent run, mileage everything i got superb. I did long ride up to 400 km and i got no issue with my back. Spare parts are cheap. Only i got timely service from yamaha only and never faced any breakdown or offended moments. Overall a superb experience.

Excellent bike, good pickup, comfortable ergonomics, average from 45-50 km per liter, using for last 9 months, overall good experience, tried other bikes also like pulsar, apache, but i think this is better than all other counter parts, one thing which i think can be improved is ground clearance which should be little higher.

7 year ownership riding experience on yamaha fzs 2010
6 years ago
Ravishankar Iyer
I'm a proud owner of a black & green yamaha fz-s ver. 1.0
Ownership -
First owner. Bought the bike in December 2010.
Total distance covered -
1 lakh 4 thousand kilometres till date (and counting...)
Places visited on my bike -
Goa, mangalore, bengaluru, madurai, rameshwaram, pondicherry, mahabalipuram, vellore, down south. And, udaipur, ajmer, mount abu, ahmedabad, jammu & kashmir, and ladakh, up north. Apart from them, the nearby alibag, lonavla, pune, dhule, jalgaon trips.
About the bike, seating & riding experience -
It's typically a naked city commuter bike, light weighted, and perfect for a solo rider. The pillion seating position, however, is terribly uncomfortable because it inclines at an angle wherein the pillion will constantly feel pressure on their knees, whenever they sit for long duration.
Power -
The bike houses a fairly good amount of power for you to cruise on the highways.
Top speed -
I have touched 127 kmph top speed, with stock parts.
Fuel tank capacity -
12 l
Mileage -
40kmpl (average) across 7 years.
Servicing & maintenance -
Roughly rs. 900/- to 1500/- (lesser if in amc). Parts, however, are a tad bit expensive than bajaj. But, the quality is quite good. Then again, charges incurred for maintenance almost entirely depends on the riding style and the frequency of servicing done.
Pros -
1. Costs under 1 lakh
2. Stylish design
3. Can be taken for touring (solo)
4. Good mileage
5. Spare parts available in most parts of India
6. Great for city riding
Cons -
1. Not advisable for pillion
2. Carburetor engine does not perform well at high altitudes, unless there's a jumper installed inside it to alter air-fuel mixture

Tips for other riders
Yamalube have lasted a maximum of 6000 km for me. Of course i stretched it way beyond. Id say check oil levels once after 3000 km and if the oil has turned dark or has lost its viscosity stickiness or has reduced in levels get it replaced or topped up. I never really needed a clutch wire throttle cable or any spare parts for my long rides. Maybe i was lucky but ill advise everyone to carry them. During long rides check oil levels ever 1500 km. Lubricate and tighten the chain if you notice a slack. Tubeless tires are a boon of an invention. They are super reliable. I recommend ceat tires. The one that i have on has lasted about 43000 km without losing its treading. Thumbs up to ceat
