  • Gixxer 250 long-term owner review

    Ej Kattinapudi

Buying experience: This motorcycle is sold only at a suzuki premium dealer (in hyderabad). So, the experience was great! we were always treated with coffee, water and the paperwork was done in time for the delivery. The showroom floor also had a gsx-s750, an rmz 450 alongside a gixxer 150, sf 150 and an sf 250. They were kind enough to let my little niece take pictures with the motorcycles on display. Overall, a good purchase experience. Riding experience: This is worth reading! i owned a gixxer sf (150), which i traded in for the naked 250. Swinging a leg over the 250. The posture felt familiar and i loved how similar the handling was. Of course, the brakes seem to lack the bite that the 150 had (the 150 i owned has single channel abs) and the tyres lack grip! but, let me assure you that the brakes do have the stopping power, and the tyres are adequate for everyday use. Moving on, the engine is wonderful, with plenty of torque down low, for city use, and good power for a weekend highway cruise. I do both on a regularly. The tank capacity could be larger but when ridden gently, i go for about 400+ kms before i need to fill up. (35 kmpl approximately). Th posture is perfect for both city and highway use. A simple visor from the burgman 125 can fix you wind-blast woes on the highway. One thing to note, is that you tend to sit at a slope. So, a small amount of padding will help level the seating position, and will be comfortable for long distance rides. Design & performance: I think it's a good looking motorcycle. In the presence of it's rivals, it can hold its own. I own the silver and black (matte) variant and it's pleasing to look at. The inverted display is rather good, even in sunlight and i greatly appreciate the gear position indicator. Nothing fancy, just a good functional display. Suzuki did a great job with the sohc oil-cooled setup here, and it performs really well. Engine is tractable and efficient, and heat is really not an issue but also, i'm not constantly in dense traffic. Oil cooler works well; never had over-heating issue, despite some spirited runs on the highways with a certain other competitor (duke 250). You can push it all the way up to a speedo-indicated 153 kmph but i wouldn't recommend it, as the wind-blast is horrible. Highway manners are surprisingly good, with the ability to hold on to 90-110 kmph speeds, all day long. I use this motorcycle occasionally to visit some projects (450 kms roundtrip) and the ride is comfortable over these distances (with slight modifications to the seat cushioning) . All in all, a good performer for most things you'd throw at it. Servicing & maintenance: I've done 3 (free) services and the bill has never exceeded 1,200 inr. This was mostly for the oil and oil filter. I can't imagine it being drastically different if it were a paid service so it's safe to say that the service charges, so far, have been reasonable. Service interval is 4,500 kms to 5,000 kms (mentioned in the owner's manual). Keep an eye on the chain and take it to a professional if you want to get the chain adjusted or lubricated. The service center did this every time, but i get it checked every 500 kms. Pros & cons: Let's start with the pros. It's really good at what it is designed to do; a powerful naked 250, that is comfortable yet sporty, for both city and highway use. Power is great, ride and handling is good and maintenance is not expensive. The engine is efficient, and returns good fuel efficiency figures when ridden sanely. Led headlamps are great for city use and the inverted display offers all the info you'd ever need. Really, the biggest let downs are the lack of bite from the brakes and the uninspiring grip from the mrf tyres. I can't wait to swap them out and see what some other competitors. Pillion seating isn't that great, but it works all right for short city rides. Conclusion: I impulse purchased this motorcycle. Actually, my friend and i did. We both went for a test-ride, traded in our motorcycles, and took the new 250 home, the following day. Both of us, to this day, have absolutely no regrets! We took a chance on this one, without thinking too much and i hope you do too because it truly is worth it! Thanks and cheers!

How is the new Suzuki Gixxer 250?
I own Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 2019 matte black . At the time of writing this , Ive ridden enough to give you some idea about the bike ( > 1000kms )
the first thing in the bike that stands out is the looks. Its looks kinda okay from the front , but from sides it gives that big bike " feel
RIDING ERGONOMICS, you will feel at home if you have ridden the previous generation Gixxer SF 155 or gixxer 155 , but you need to stretch your arms a little bit to reach the newly installed CLIP ONN handlebars . Foot pegs are neither center set nor back set , one need not flex the knee completely while riding. No wrist Pain , back pain whatsoever after riding continuously for more than 200 kms . Bike feels light even at rest .
HEART OF THE BIKE and performance, I will divide the performance into city and long rides . Before that , once you turn on the keys - the injectors make that sound which I like a lot . SUZUKI EASY TOUCH has been equipped on this bike , That is , touch the self start once it will take multiple attempts by itself to start the bike , if the engine doesn't start immediately. 99.99 % of the times , engine comes to life just after you touch the start button .
Engine is very smooth for a single cylinder bike. Gear shifts are smooth but not the smoothest !!!!
CITY PERFORMANCE, I ride on the busy streets of BENGALURU. The power and torque starts to kick in as soon as 3000 rpm and builds up till 9500 rpm . You can easily use 4th gear in the city , knocking sound doesn't come even at 3000 rpm in 4 th gear. If you want to overtake a vehicle , you can just open the throttle and pass that vehicle without changing gears. MILEAGE IN CITY : 32 kmpl for my riding style
long ride performance. The bike touches 100 kmph very easily without any hassles. Taking about cruise speed , will get around 95 kmph at 6000 rpm in 6th gear. Seat cushions are soft , it wont give you any kind of pains. MILEAGE ON LONG RIDES : 37 kmph
HEAD LIGHTS : being an all led set up , the throw of the lights are excellent and you can ride all night long !!!!!
WINDSCREEN : God!! Its so small .lol, definitely needs an upgrade.
Pillion comfort : seats are soft and adequately wide , but I doubt the pillion comfort on long rides.and short pillion may feel very difficult to hop on the seat cuz its very tall.
Road grip , mrf revzz are doing great job even on wet roads !!!! I wont be changing the tyres any time soon as I am pretty much confident on MRFs
Road presence , yes!!! People look at your bike quite often and you may have to answer a lot of questions which the people ask you in the traffic signals.
OIL COOLING !!! Initially lot of men and women had a doubt about the cooling system on this bike , but it works brilliantly. If cooling doubt is the only thing which is bothering you a lot to make a decision to buy this bike, just believe me and go buy the bike
    MILEAGE , city : 32 kmpl , long rides : 37 kmpl
tyre pressure as recommended by the company , front - 29 , rear - 33 irrespective of the pillion seat occupancy.
    Competition : duke 250 , cbr 250r , pulsar rs 200 , rc 200 , dominar 400 , fazer 25 and fz 25
EDIT : now I have clocked around 4000 kms , When I ride it fast on the highways ( like 110 - 130 ) , keep the engine at higher RPMs and I use lower gears in the city to overtake , engine braking and of course for little fun..Im getting a combined MILEAGE OF AROUND 28 kmpl to 29.6 kmpl ( I calculate mileage by FULL TANK method ) .
EDIT 2: I recently did a 600 kms ride got mileage of around 31kmpl only on highways .riding speed was around 100117 kmph all the time.

  • Excellent bike but poor seat

    Amitava Kala

I have ridden it for 1500+ km now. I went on tour last month and travelled 500+ km.
    1) vibration - it is minimum. I travelled below 5000 rpm before 1000 km. I did not feel any vibration or annoying vibration at any speed. After 1000 km -
At 100 kmph speed in 6th gear there was no vibration at handlebar, there was buzzing vibration in footpeg, but not distracting. I was wearing riding gloves and normal shoes. With riding shoes vibration in footpegs will be less i believe. There was no vibration in seat at any speed.
    2) mileage - i got 40+ km/l on highway, which is really good.
    3) fit and finish - excellent
    4) headlight- very good, no problem at night.
    5) look- suzuki should have given more colour options for naked gixxer 250. I bought the black one, but wanted a red one, which is not available in naked 250.
    6) break- little less biting power than what we expect i believe. It is no way near god like breaking in duke bikes.
    7) horn - ok
    8) heating issue - practically does not exist. I had running period in peak summer, did not face any issue. Excellent work by suzuki.
    9) highway stability - good
    10) handling - good , but definitely not as good as dukes.
    11) tyre - it works well in most situations, but be careful in slippery roads or sandy roads. I felt it was slipping a little even when i maintained a straight line on sandy road. (i had a tail bag ).
    12) acceleration - ok, it is not that great but it accelerates in a surefooted way, very good for touring.
    13) riding comfort - vibration is less that is good ( i sold my old duke 390 because of that). But now the big problem i face in this bike is the seat. The curved seat narrowed down at the front almost like a cycle seat. And the foot pegs are slightly rearward.
Now consider duke seat. It is very hard but it is flat and wide. The load of the upper body is taken completely by the pointy hip bones. Although it is vey difficult to seat on it for more than one and a half hours, but the pain vanishes after fifteen twenty minutes.
But in gixxer the load is ahead of hip bones because of the narrow seat, slightly rearward foot pegs and slightly lean forward posture. It gives almost similar pain as riding a cycle gives, which is not good. I felt terrible after returning from the tour. I was wearing a riding jacket which weighs around 2.5 kg. This is a racing seat, not for touring.

  • Engineering masterpiece from suzuki

    1. Buying experience - 3.5*Bought it from riya suzuki - bhandup, mumbai. Booked on 9/dec/19, cheque cleared on 11/dec, received registration number message on 18/dec and the bike was delivered on 19/dec. Overall process took 10 days. Ratings are cut because the bike delivered to was having a defective handle (tilted upwards from the right hand side and plain on the left side). Informed the same to the showroom guy who asked me to visit service center to get it repaired(will share the service center experience in the next section). Also i had follow up for much linger to get the promised accessories, rto number plate, extended warranty certificate (is yet to be received).2 riding experience - 4.5*I have crossed 1500kms mark recently and i can tell one thing for sure is that gixxer 250 is an absolute beast when it comes to power delivery. Its so linear, precise and wanting for more. Always ready to go a bit faster.. 26.1bhp and 22.6nm torque do wonders for gixxer 250.3.Looks, performance - 5* Looks are there for everyone to see. Performance is top notch. 4. Servicing and maintenance - 4.7*As told earlier, my new bike's handle was faulty i was advised to visit the service center. I visited riya suzuki service center which is in mulund and explained the issue. The staff was surprisingly very helpful, one of their main guy took a test ride and confirmed that the handle is actually faulty. They took the bike inside and inspected the handle closely asked me if the bike was fallen somewhere to which i said no. Since it was a new bike, they straight away replaced the handle bar (which was again a welcoming gesture). Cut to 1st service-General servicing, oil & oil filter changed, rear shock absorbers adjusted. Before 1st service, the ride was a bit stiff and hand. I could feel each and every bump which was not the case with my re-cl350. During 1st service, i requested the service guy to adjust the suspension. Now it is much more relaxed and comfortable.5. Pros and cons - 4.5*Pros -Light, Quick, Smooth, Soch oil cooling work wonders,Precise gear shifts, Comfortable riding position,Always visible and very handy digital console. Wish it could also display average of the bike.Styling, Headlights, Tail lamp,Handling and maneuverability. Cons-No led indicators, Suspension still on the stiffer side,Small rear seat.Verdict - 4.5*Being an enfield owner earlier, i'm loving this new nimble yet aggressive bike. No regret choosing this over classic 350.

  • A proper quarter-liter street fighter

I test rode this bike in the city today.1. Looks, fit & finish - bike is compact but beefy. Looks like a typical 150cc bike as far as size is concerned. But the build quality, fit & finish are quite good. Stylish led headlamp, matte paint & bronze engine casing give it a premium appearance.2. Ergonomics - riding position is upright and the foot-pegs are slightly rear set. It has typical street-fighter like rider's triangle. Seat height at 800mm is suitable for most of the population. 3. Handling - chassis felt good enough to handle power of this bike. Bike is slightly heavy than typical 150cc bikes but still very nimble in the city. Front end feel is quite good and bike is very easy to balance even at low crawling speeds. 4. Powertrain - engine is refined but extremely torquey. Mid-range is particularly strong. Suzuki managed to extract 26 bhp from this engine without water cooling because they have decades of experience of developing sophisticated oil cooled engines. Search sacs on google for more info on oil cooling technology. The gearbox felt effortless to operate and complements the engine quite well.5. Verdict - this bike is like the all rounder which does everything well. You can use this bike for touring on the weekends and for office commutes on regular days. Powerful engine, legendary japanese reliability, competent chassis & reasonable pricing makes this bike king of 200-300cc segment in my opinion.

  • According performance and comfort this bike is on the top in 250 cc

    Deepak Negi

Suzuki always given an amazing technology in two Wheeler automobile.
Now the gixxer 250sf and 250 naked both bikes are having great feature in mid Segment bike.
the bike neither cheaper nor more expensive..according the feature given us.
this 250 cc bike gives sufficient amount of torque with decent mileage 35kmpl to 38 kmpl if u ride properly
i got 36 kmpl at 75 to 80 kmph on top gear at 5500 rpm
i have ride my gixxer 250 naked 2200 km now and done 2 trip
one 950 km and second 800 km in single day.
1). Best handling according to weight as compare other 250cc
2). wide radial tyre with dual channel ABS
3). Due to SOCS technology it gives efficiency as well as liquid cooled and you have no worry about your coolant during ride.
4).Super aerodynamics as compare other bikes.
5). Look wise this bike is on top position in 250 segment.
when you passing in traffic or cities most of people seeing u for few seconds because it's Led headlights are looking as Ducati monster and it's Matt Black design is eye catchy.

The bike is very smooth and very powerful. It can catch a top speed of 150-155 kmph. While going at 140kmph, i don't feel any vibrations. The riding position is more comfort when compared with old gixxer. My bike gives a mileage of 38-40kmpl at 80-90kmph. The headlamp is awesome with a bright light.I felt more comfort for long rides. The pillion seat is also comfortable when compared with the old gixxer. The dual channel abs gives more safe ride.

1.All most 15000 Rupees discount from Suzuki I got it in 182990 Rupees with 5 years warranty with 1+4 insurance. 2. Riding experience is excellent. Powerful engine. 3. Built quality is excellent. Road attentive. 4. Decent service cost. 5. I found only one cons less comfortable for long height riders. If you are more then 5 .11 feet bit pain in your back. Seat is hard.

Gixxer 250 is an amazing bike for youngsters as well as middle aged people. I bought it from hsr layout from suzuki showroom. The emi option they provided was very awesome as i am a student i go for part time and internships. It's pretty smooth while driving and you can never beat the the looks if you are 5'8 and you own this machine the torque the shifts the weight everything is awesome. You can beat any 250 cc easily. Servicing experience was also awesome i didn't say anything they did it themselves, no compromise in quality spares. I am in full support of this machine.

    Pratik B

    Pratik B

I have ridden it for 1500+ km now. I went on tour last month and travelled 500+ km.
    1) vibration - it is minimum. I travelled below 5000 rpm before 1000 km. I did not feel any vibration or annoying vibration at any speed. After 1000 km -

Bike has really amazing . Ride quality has smooth , 250cc sohc oil cooled engine performance has so good . Sports naked style has impressive. Instrument cluster is updated . Dual abs system braking was superb. Led three layer headlight ,tail light was nice clearly in morning ride . 6 speed gearbox is unleash the vehicle & shifter gear is smooth , fuel injection system is perfect. I'll considered gixxer 250 premium sports bike can better than fz. It's 26.1 bhp power delivered. It's was so awesome go for it .

  • Excellent bike for commuting in city and long drives.

    Sachin Singh

Definitely go for tube less, oil change in 3000 is safe. After a heavy tour of 100 km in above avg rep do give a rest of 1 hr.
