The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is a modern classic café-racer style motorcycle that blends vintage aesthetics with contemporary performance and reliability. Launched as part of Royal Enfield’s 650 cc twin family, the GT 650 stands out for its distinctive retro design, sporty ergonomics, and balanced performance suitable for both city streets and open roads. At the heart of the Continental GT 650 is a 648 cc air/oil-cooled parallel-twin engine with a SOHC setup that produces around 47 hp at 7,250 rpm and 52 Nm of torque. This powerplant is mated to a 6-speed gearbox, giving smooth shifts and a spirited riding experience. The bike can reach a top speed of about 160–170 km/h, making it one of the quicker machines in Royal Enfield’s lineup. Styling is a key highlight of the GT 650. Inspired by classic café racer culture of the 1950s and 1960s, it features a sculpted fuel tank, clip-on handlebars, a tucked-in riding position, and retro badging that evoke heritage performance motorcycles. The chassis is a steel double-cradle frame with telescopic front forks and twin rear shocks, offering a balance of stability and agility. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes with dual-channel ABS, enhancing safety. Times DriveIn terms of ergonomics, the Continental GT 650 leans toward a sporty ride posture, which many enthusiasts appreciate for dynamic cornering but may feel a bit aggressive for long touring. Fuel capacity is 12.5 litres, and the bike delivers decent mileage (around 25-28 km/l) for its class, making it practical for everyday use as well as weekend rides. In markets like India, the Continental GT 650 is positioned in the premium mid-range segment, with pricing typically around ₹3.5–4 lakhs on-road, depending on city and variant. Overall, the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is celebrated for its iconic design, engaging engine character, and blend of classic looks with modern usability, appealing to riders who want both style and substance.

GT 650 First Ride: Looks Great, Ride Decent
21 weeks ago
Chanchal Aich
The Continental GT 650 gave me a mixed but interesting riding experience. I really liked its bold cafe-racer style, which looks premium and instantly catches attention. The performance felt average to good, smooth enough for normal rides but not extremely exciting. However, the comfort level wasn’t great, mainly because of the committed riding posture that can feel tiring after a while. The mileage felt decent and acceptable for a 650cc bike. Overall, based on my short ride, I would rate the bike a solid 7 out of 10.
