Is the Royal Enfield Classic 350 Reborn a Good First Bike? My Experience After 23,000 km
4 weeks ago

Why I Chose the Royal Enfield Classic 350 Reborn as My First Bike (After 23,000 km)****Ownership review****If you’re buying your first bike and are confused between adventure bikes, cruisers, and retro classics, this might help you. This is my real-world experience of selecting my first motorcycle and why I finally chose the Royal Enfield Classic 350 Reborn (Red Chrome) over several popular options in the 200cc–450cc segment. This post doesn’t claim that the Classic 350 is the best bike under ₹3 lakhs. It simply explains why it was the right bike for my use case.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Rider Profile (Important Context) • Height: 5'10" • Pillion: My wife (regularly rides with me) • Usage: Daily office commute + weekend rides + long toursPillion comfort and ease of ownership were non-negotiable.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------My Bike Selection CriteriaBefore stepping into showrooms, I listed what I actually needed from a motorcycle: 1. Excellent pillion comfort 2. Comfortable for daily city use and long rides 3. Good mileage with easy handling 4. Easy pillion access 5. Stable and planted on highways and curves 6. Easy to repair during emergencies (less electronics preferred) 7. Affordable maintenance 8. Reliable service network within 5 km, even in tier-2 cities-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Test Ride Phase (200cc–450cc)For nearly a month, I test-rode multiple motorcycles in the 200cc–450cc segment.I’m not into aggressive sports bikes, so models like the R15, KTM RC, and Duke series were excluded early on.Bikes test ridden: • Hero Xpulse 200 • Suzuki V-Strom SX 250 • Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 • KTM 250 Adventure • Royal Enfield Classic 350 • Honda H’ness 350-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Honest Observations After Test RidesKTM 250 AdventureExtremely exciting to ride. Acceleration from 10–100 kmph was effortless and slightly intimidating. Great throttle response, good pillion comfort, and plenty of touring accessories available. It stayed in the final shortlist.Hero Xpulse 200Affordable and easy to maintain, but pillion comfort was a deal-breaker for us.Suzuki V-Strom SX 250Refined engine, easy handling, decent mileage, and good pillion comfort. Unfortunately, the service centre was far from my location, which ruled it out.Honda H’ness 350Smooth, refined, and calm engine with linear power delivery. However, poor service accessibility near my area worked against it.Himalayan 450A solid touring and off-road machine with good pillion comfort. However, it felt heavy in city traffic, and the price exceeded my budget.Classic 350 RebornCalm, stable, and confidence-inspiring. Excellent pillion comfort, reasonable maintenance, a relaxed riding posture, and a widespread service network. The Red Chrome variant stood out visually, and long-distance comfort felt promising.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Final Shortlist & DecisionAfter multiple discussions and re-evaluating our priorities, the final two bikes were: • KTM 250 Adventure • Royal Enfield Classic 350 RebornWe eventually chose the Classic 350 Reborn (Red Chrome) because it aligned better with real-world usage, comfort, and peace of mind.Early Rides After First ServiceAfter the first service, we started taking the bike on short tours to understand its touring capability and real-world comfort. These rides played a big role in building our confidence with the motorcycle. Some of our early rides included: 1. Pune – Malvan (via the coastal belt) – Pune: 1000+ km 2. Pune – Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga – Shri Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga – Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga – Pune(Covered 3 Jyotirlingas in Maharashtra): approximately 1000 km 3. Pune – Kolhapur – Pune: around 600 kmThe Classic 350 handled these rides comfortably, especially with a pillion, reinforcing that we had made the right decision.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Ownership Review After 23,000 kmAs of 7th January 2026, I’ve ridden nearly 23,000 km. • City: Easy to manoeuvre, stress-free, mileage of 34–36 kmpl • Highways: Comfortable cruising up to 80–90 kmph • Above 90 kmph: Vibrations appear and confidence reduces • Reliability: No major issues so farOverall, it has been a satisfying ownership experience.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Accessories That Made a Difference • Royal Enfield sump guard • Royal Enfield touring seats, foot pegs, and windshield • Zana universal gel seat cushion (absolute game changer) • M Technics rear luggage rack (Amazon)-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Final ThoughtsIf your priority is pillion comfort, relaxed riding, easy maintenance, and a strong service network, the Classic 350 Reborn still makes a lot of sense today. It may not be the fastest bike in its segment, but it excels where it truly matters for everyday riders.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Royal Enfield Classic 350. Opinion after 5000kms.Royal Enfield Classic 350. Not a bad bike but Overrated.Sound muffled after BE6Good low end torque but dull boring for a long distance. Asthmatic after touching 95 kmph .Suspension is better than meteor. That’s all.Good front brakes. Poor rear brakes.Pathetic headlights.Tyres feel slippery sometimesIt doesn’t create the so called zen bubble around you.Mileage is great. In highways I have milked 50kms/lit from it .It doesn’t live up to the aura it has created.Rating - 5/10.Waiting for the triumph bonneville 350. Or may switch to Harley Davidson T440**Just initial impressions. May be it will grow on me later.**

While the performance is reliable and refined, the service experience and value for money could be improved slightly. Mileage is decent at around 32 kmpl, making it practical for daily use. Overall, it’s a solid and enjoyable motorcycle for riders who appreciate comfort, heritage, and a relaxed riding experience.
