Okinawa Cruiser is expected to launch in India in October 2021 in the expected price range of ₹ 90,000 to ₹ 1,00,000. Currently available bikes which are similar to Cruiser are Benling Aura, Bajaj Chetak & BGauss B8. Another bike similar to Cruiser is Aprilia SXR 125 which is launching in November 2020 in India.
Okinawa is one of the well-established electric two-wheeler brands in India with a decently-sized product portfolio and vast dealership network. At the Auto Expo 2020, the company showcased a unique concept in the form of an electric maxi-scooter named the ‘Cruiser’. In India, the maxi-scooter genre is still on a nascent stage, even in the petrol-powered category, and one with an electric motor is profoundly niche.
While unveiling the concept, Okinawa had revealed that the production model of the Cruiser will be launched in India in the third quarter of FY2020-21. However, we already know the technical details of the electric scooter. Powering the Cruiser is a 4kWh lithium-ion battery which propels a 3kW motor. It is capable of achieving a top speed of 100kmph while the full battery range stands at 120kms, as claimed by the company. It rides on large 14-inch wheels with telescopic forks, dual shock absorbers and disc brakes at both ends.
Styling is where the Cruiser truly stands out. Staying true to its maxi-scooter tag, it sports a bold front apron housing a large LED headlamp and turn indicators. The long and swooping rear panels accommodate a spacious-looking stepped seat which, along with a pulled-back handlebar and cruiser-like foot rest, should result in comfortable riding position. The e-scooter is also modern in terms of gizmos featuring anti-theft alarm, keyless ignition system, find my scooter function, mobile charging, USB port and motor walking assistance.
Okinawa is known for pricing its products aggressively and it could adapt the same strategy for the Cruiser. Expect it to be priced in the ballpark of Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
