Yamaha R7 showcased at MotoGP in India

    - Expected to be launched in India this year

    - To come to our shores via the CBU route

India Yamaha Motor showcased its much-hallowed middle-weight supersport, the YZF-R7, at the recently concluded Indian MotoGP at the Buddh International Circuit. The motorcycle was earlier unveiled in India in July at MMRT, Chennai, and it is likely to be officially launched towards the end of this year.

The YZF-R7 takes design inspiration from its bigger litre-class sibling, the YZF-R1. It sports a single projector LED headlamp tucked neatly in the central air intake which is flanked by sleek LED DRLs. All of this lends it a radical look. On the side, the sculpted fairing, muscular fuel tank, and an upswept tail section with large scoops make it look proportionate and handsome. But unlike its litre-class version, which is crammed with electronics, the R7 doesn’t get rider aids, except for dual-channel ABS and an optional quick shifter.

Propelling the R7 is a 689cc, twin-cylinder motor mated to a six-speed gearbox. It dishes out 73bhp at 8,750rpm and 67Nm at 6,500rpm and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. The 17-inch alloy wheels are wrapped in a 120/70 front and a 180/55 rear tyre while it is suspended by non-adjustable USD front forks and a monoshock. Meanwhile, dropping anchors are dual 298mm discs up front and a single 245mm rear disc.

The Yamaha YZF-R7 will come to India via the CBU (completely built-up) route and it will compete against the likes of the Aprilia RS660 and the Honda CBR 650R
