- Norton India debut later this year
- Will launch the big bikes first
- Will come as CBU units
TVS Motor Company has officially confirmed the India launch of its premium British motorcycle brand, Norton, with the debut scheduled for later this year.
This announcement came from TVS Managing Director Sudarshan Venu, who highlighted the advantages of the new India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The FTA is expected to benefit companies like TVS that have strong UK ties, paving the way for Norton’s entry into the Indian market.
The current Norton lineup includes the Commando 961, V4SV, and V4CR—all of which are likely to make it to Indian shores as completely built units (CBUs). While volumes may remain low initially, TVS aims to use these big bikes to establish the Norton brand in India and build aspirational value.
More significantly, TVS and Norton are co-developing a new range of smaller-capacity motorcycles, including 300–400cc models. These bikes, tailored for emerging markets like India, are expected to launch in the coming years.
TVS knows that premium success in India won’t come from selling high-end machines alone. Instead, it plans to follow a long-term strategy—similar to Bajaj’s playbook with Triumph and KTM—by leveraging Norton’s legacy and introducing accessible, mid-capacity models down the line.
This approach might take time, but for TVS, it’s a calculated move aimed at long-term profitability and stronger brand positioning in the premium segment.
