TVS has finally ventured into the adventure tourer category with the new Apache RTX. While the starting price (introductory) is impressive at Rs. 1.99 Lakh, ex-showroom, is it good as a package? Let’s try to assess that by going through the technical specifications and features.

Engine
Powering the motorcycle is TVS’s new 299cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, which is a part of the new RT-DX4 platform. It produces 35.5bhp maximum power at 9,000rpm and 28.5Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm. The engine gets dual cooling technology with water and oil jackets and uses a six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch. There is a quick shifter as well for allowing clutch-less gear shifts.

Hardware
Underpinned by a steel trellis frame, the Apache RTX rides on a 19-17-inch alloy wheel combination that is shod with dual-purpose tubeless tyres. The sizes are 110/80 for the front and 150/70 for the rear. These wheels are suspended by WP, long-travel inverted cartridge forks at the front, and a mono-tube floating piston unit at the rear. Stopping power comes from a single disc at both ends with dual-channel ABS, which works in multiple modes. Opt for the optional BTO kit and you also get adjustable suspension.

Dimensions and Weight
The Apache RTX weighs 180kg (kerb), which is on the lighter side and should make it easy to handle the bike at slow speeds. The seat height, however, is slightly high at 835mm, while the ground clearance is decent at 200mm. The suspension travel is 180mm at both ends, which should translate to good flexibility while riding off-road. The fuel tank capacity of the motorcycle stands at 12.5 litres.

Features and Technology
This is the department in which the Apache RTX is truly impressive. It features four ride modes: Urban, Rain, Tour, and Rally with different engine responses and varying levels of traction control and ABS intervention. It also gets a bi-directional quick shifter, cruise control, and linear traction control. A five-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity offers map mirroring, navigation, and ride data, while other niceties like adjustable levers and a tyre pressure monitoring system add to the convenience quotient. Touring enthusiasts will be happy to know it also has cruise control.
Price and Variants
The base variant of the TVS Apache RTX is priced at Rs. 1.99 lakh, while the Top and BTO trims set you back by Rs. 2.14 lakh and Rs. 2.29 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom). Notably, these are introductory prices and might witness an increment soon.
