Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RX Unveiled

    - Limited to 1,200 units

    - Gets more committed ergonomics

    - Gets Ohlins SmartEC3.0 electronic suspension

Triumph Motorcycles has introduced the new Speed Triple 1200 RX in international markets. The motorcycle is based on the Speed Triple 1200 RS, but with everything turned up to eleven. The ‘RX’ is limited to 1,200 units worldwide and here is what makes it special.

The visuals, to begin with, are quite catchy, what with the Triumph Performance Yellow colour grabbing attention. It’s seen on the panels above the headlight, fuel tank, and the rear cowl. Adding to the visuals are the carbon fibre pieces that add some much needed contrast.

Triumph has also made the ergonomics more committed than the Speed Triple 1200 RS. The bike gets clip-on handlebars that are placed lower and further forward than the handlebar on the RS. The footpegs are also moved higher and further back to facilitate the sporty riding position. The seat, meanwhile, is more spacious to further aid the aggressive rider’s stance.

Powering the bike is a 1,160cc, inline triple engine that makes 180.5bhp at 10,750rpm and 127Nm at 8,750rpm. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox, with a quickshifter. Triumph has added a new Akrapovic exhaust, but that’s purely for the sound and it does not offer any performance advantage whatsoever.

Under the bodywork, the frame is suspended by an Ohlins SmartEC3.0 electronically adjustable USD fork and a monoshock. There’s an Ohlins SD EC electronic steering damper as well. Braking duties, meanwhile, are taken care of by twin discs at the front with Brembo Stylema monobloc callipers and a disc brake at the rear.

The bike also comes with a comprehensive electronics suite that includes cornering traction control, engine brake control, cruise control, ABS modes, and five ride modes- Rain, Road, Sport, Track, and Rider.

As of now, there is no word on whether any units of the Speed Triple 1200 RX will be allocated for India.
