Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 vs Himalayan 411: What Has Changed?

The Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 has been launched in India at Rs. 2.29 lakh (ex-showroom). The motorcycle is the successor to the Himalayan 411 and has undergone several changes. Here’s a detailed look at the changes.

    The Bigger Engine

The first major change is the bigger engine, which is a bored-out version of the Himalayan 411’s motor. The new engine is a 443cc, air/oil-cooled, single-cylinder motor producing 25.4bhp and 34Nm. This is a bump of 1.3bhp and 2Nm compared to before.

The bike also gets a six-speed gearbox compared to the five-speed one that was offered in the Himalayan 411. The addition of the sixth gear should make the bike a lot more capable for highway riding.

    Improved Brakes

The bike features a 300mm front and 240mm rear disc setup, with dual-channel ABS. The brake calipers at the front now feature larger pistons for enhanced stopping power. This is similar to what Royal Enfield had done on the Scram 440 back when it was launched in India.

In addition to this, the bike features switchable ABS at the rear. The ABS intervention can be turned off with the click of a button on the handlebar’s left-hand side switchgear. The addition of this feature should improve the bike’s off-road capabilities.

    New Console

The bike now features a new console, and it is a simpler setup compared to the Himalayan 411’s. The new console features the same single-pod instrument cluster as the Scram 411, with an analogue speedometer and a digital inset for fuel level, gear position, trip and odometer readouts. There’s also the Royal Enfield Tripper Navigation module for turn-by-turn navigation.

The Himalayan 411’s console with its analogue speedometer, tachometer and fuel gauge looked a lot more retro. The addition of a digital compass also added to the rugged and purposeful nature of the motorcycle.

Apart from these changes, both the Himalayan 411 and the Himalayan 440 have the same 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheel setup. It gets a telescopic fork and monoshock suspension setup, with 200mm travel at the front and 180mm travel at the rear.
