Next-gen Royal Enfield Classic to get digital display and redesigned switchgear

- Gets a small digital display positioned below the analogue speedometer

- Gets vintage-styled switchgear to accentuate its classic retro look

- Recoil-type circular switches for ignition and headlight pass-beam

The next-generation Royal Enfield Classic has been spotted once again. This time, however, the spy images provide information about its new analogue-digital instrument console and new vintage-styled switchgear.

In the case of the instrument console, the next-generation model will feature a semi-digital unit. While it continues to have an analogue speedometer, it is now accompanied by a small digital display located below it. Expect the display to provide information like the odometer, trip meter and fuel gauge. The assembly is surrounded by a chunky chromed bezel. Notably, Royal Enfield has also revised the key slot for the bike’s ignition. Also, the adjacent circular amp meter (in the case of carb model)/ check engine lamp and low fuel indicator display (in case of the fuel-injected model) seem to have been replaced by a black cover. Expect these tell-tale bits to be included in the digital unit.

Next is the new but old-school styled switchgear. On the right, the current engine kill switch has been replaced by a circular type for engine run/off with recoil action for cranking the motor. Below that is a toggle switch that is likely to be used to select between the DRLs and headlamp.

The left side also gets a similar old-school treatment. The regular switch to select between low beam and high beam has been replaced by a circular one with a recoil action for pass beam. It also gets branding in the circular jog. There is also a button present where the pass beam button is traditionally positioned. Its purpose is currently unknown. Besides that, the turn indicator and horn button remain in the same location.

With more details of the next-generation Classic surfacing online, the wait before Royal Enfield would unveil the motorcycle seems interminable. We expect the Chennai-based manufacturer to take the covers off the next-generation Classic model days prior to the 2020 Auto Expo in Delhi. As far as prices are concerned, expect a price bump of around Rs 10,000-12,000 over the existing price tag.
