New Benelli Leoncino 250 spotted testing ahead of launch

• Gets changes to its design
• Likely to be launched around the festive season

A test mule of what is being perceived as the new Benelli Leoncino 250 was recently spotted undergoing test runs on public roads. The spy shots reveal some details about the changes this updated model, which is likely to be launched in the next few months, will come with. The previous model was discontinued when the new BS6 emission norms came into effect in 2020.

While it continues to look like a scrambler, there are some evident design changes which should lend it a fresh visual appeal. Although the test mule was camouflaged, it’s clearly decipherable that the front section boasts a more muscular tank section with seemingly sharp extensions. Even the headlamp assembly seems to have gone through a revamp and so has the tail section which looks stubbier and carries a slightly different seat. While the alloy wheels look the same as before, a different exhaust canister means the engine might emanate a different note.

We expect the engine to remain largely unchanged, barring minor tweaks to help it comply with the upcoming OBD-2B emissions norms. The previous model is powered by a 249cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which comes mated to a six-speed gearbox and produces 25.4bhp and 21Nm. With a kerb weight of 162kg, it is also pretty light and the new model should retain the same trait.

Before it was discontinued, the Benelli Leoncino 250 was pegged at Rs. 2.84 lakh, ex-showroom. The new model, which might be launched around the festive season this year, will certainly be more expensive.
