MotoGP 2026: Ducati's Pecco Bagnaia wins the Czech Grand Prix Sprint

Ducati Lenovo Factory Racing Team’s Francesco Bagnaia produced a commanding ride to win the MotoGP Sprint race at Brno, securing his first Saturday victory of the 2026 season after holding off a late challenge from Trackhouse Aprilia’s Ai Ogura.

Starting from third on the grid, Bagnaia made a brilliant launch to snatch the lead into Turn One, while pole-sitter Ogura dropped to second. The Ducati rider immediately settled into a strong rhythm and built a small advantage over the Japanese rookie. Fellow Factory Ducati rider, Marc Marquez ran in third after overtaking Fabio Di Giannantonio in the opening laps.

Patience pays

Pecco Bagnaia had the rear tyre advantage over Ogura, running the soft compound Michelin while the Japanese rider was on the medium. And as is often the case, Bagnaia was a master in tyre preservation.

Bagnaia controlled the pace for most of the race, but the gap began to shrink in the closing stages as Ogura found extra speed. The Trackhouse Aprilia rider piled on the pressure over the final laps, but Bagnaia remained composed and crossed the finish line just 0.241 seconds ahead to claim his first Sprint win since last year's Malaysian Grand Prix.

Marquez completed the podium after shadowing the leading pair throughout the race but was unable to mount a serious attack for second place.

Plot Twist

The race also saw a major twist in the championship fight. Championship leader Marco Bezzecchi crashed out at Turn 3 while running inside the top five, ending his Sprint with no points. Factory KTM rider Pedro Acosta also retired after falling while battling for fifth position.

Bagnaia's victory marked a timely return to form for the Ducati rider, while Ogura continued his impressive weekend by backing up his maiden MotoGP pole position with a career-best Sprint result. Marquez's podium finish also helped him reduce the gap in the championship heading into Sunday's Grand Prix.
