Ducati Lenovo Factory Team’s Marc Márquez produced a vintage performance at the Balaton Park Circuit to claim a landmark 100th Grand Prix victory.
The win also marks his 74th in MotoGP’s premier class, further strengthening his status among the sport’s all-time greats.
Turn One chaos shakes up the field
As the lights went out a major multi-rider incident at Turn 1 eliminated several contenders, including Jorge Martín, Marco Bezzecchi, Fabio Di Giannantonio and others. While Fabio managed to remount and continue, both Factory Aprilia riders were out.
Martin was to be blamed for the incident as he misjudged his braking and lost the front, slid into the field and took out riders. Meanwhile, Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta on the Factory KTM checked out and were engaged in a battle of their own.
Márquez vs Acosta: a classic duel
Acosta and Marquez traded places for the lead on multiple occasions in the middle part of the race. Acosta briefly seized control of the race, but Márquez gradually closed in as the laps progressed. The turning point came when Marquez launched an attack on Acosta and took the lead of the race. WIth Acosta’s soft compound tyres losing performance compared to Marquez’s medium compound tyres, he was losing ground. Marquez was simply in a class of his own and he dominated the last part of the race.
A landmark victory
The win carries extra significance as Márquez joins an elite group of riders to reach 100 GP victories. It also comes in a season where he has shown flashes of his best form again after injury setbacks, making the Balaton performance a statement ride rather than just a statistical milestone.
Podium finishers
Behind Márquez, Pedro Acosta secured second after a strong but ultimately unsuccessful challenge, while Francesco Bagnaia completed the podium in third.
The next race will be held from June 19-21 in Czechia.
