Italdesign patents a protection system for riders

- Italdesign files patent for rider protection system

- Designed for all kinds of two, three and four-wheeled saddle-type vehicles

- Four-point safety belts and pretensioners operate while impact

Italdesign has registered a patent for a rider protection system. The company has utilised innovation and technology to develop a device that protects the rider in case of a vehicle accident.

Left Front Three Quarter

The protection system comprises a rigid non-deformable shell covered with a soft material and safety belts. The device encodes information from accelerometers to recognise the type of impact (front, side). According to the type of accident, the device determines whether to keep the backrest attached to the vehicle together with the occupant or to release it to avoid injuries to the rider.

The shell element here is covered with a soft material that provides a certain level of comfort while riding and cushioning in case of impact on the rider. The system is designed for any two, three and four-wheeled saddle-type vehicle. Moreover, it also does not affect the dynamic behaviour of the vehicle.
