- Will only make premium bikes
Triumph, KTM makes 400cc bikes
Ducati has decided that it won’t develop and sell low-displacement motorcycles like its rivals do. The company will continue to stick to its premium positioning.
Over the last few years, other European brands like Triumph, KTM, and a few others have entered the 400-500cc displacement. These new bikes have allowed the brands to enter new markets and thus, improve their overall sales.
Ducati believes that developing low-displacement bikes would go against everything it stands for. To attract younger consumers, it has bikes like the Scrambler range that help them. In fact, it also launched the 698 Mono many months ago to bring in newer riders into the brand.
The Italian brand has two manufacturing plants – one in Italy and the other one in Thailand. The former takes care of the European and US markets, whereas the latter are primarily made for Asian countries.
Interestingly, almost seven years ago, there were rumours that Ducati and Hero MotoCorp were coming together to develop a new 300cc platform, but the project never took off. So looks like Ducati is clear with its goals and plans.
