BMW Motorrad USA issues fifth recall in a month

BMW Motorrad seems to be on a recall-spree. The manufacturer has recently issued a recall on the R NineT for a faulty swingarm pivot bolt. The concern here is that this was the fifth recall the manufacturer has announced in less than a month.

Considering the fact that the manufacturer sold almost 88,389 units in the first half of this year, so many recalls in such a short span of time from the premium brand is unusual. The recalls have affected almost half of the models in BMW’s line-up. All of the five recalls have been announced in the USA, where, due to strict laws, recalls are common. However, it could adversely affect the customers’ trust in the company’s quality control standards globally. In countries like India, customers see these faults as easily rectifiable yet announcing a recall will have a huge impact on the sales figures for the company. That could be the reason why BMW Motorrad India hasn’t issued any official recall for the motorcycles sold here.

To compensate for the recalls, BMW Motorrad will rectify the faults on the affected units free of charge and also compensate dealers for the stop sale on several of its models.
